I'm curious how many users here learned about podcasting because of PLA Radio. I don't think I'd ever even heard the term podcasting until January of 2006 when I read about it in Wired magazine. Then a month later I began PLA Radio. I'd heard of "audio blogging" but I thought that just referred to making Livejournal-like posts via your phone or a microphone. Which sounds really unappealing to me. Even though many of the podcasts I listen to center around the daily misadventures of the wacky hosts.
Answer the following questions too. Because I'm curious.
1. Do you listen to any other podcasts besides PLA Radio and/or Big Beef Bueno? Which ones? Provide links!
2. How do you listen? Via Itunes, , Ipodder, your mp3 player or just by downloading the mp3s from the websites?
3. What are the odds that you will start your own podcast?
I'm a podcasting addict. All I ever listen to anymore are podcasts. I start off almost every morning by listening to
The Distorted View. It's a 30 minute show and has some amazingly fucked up shit in it. Everyone here should go and listen to at least one episode.
I'm also a big fan of
The PK&J Show. You'll notice that their recent shows have quite a few PLA references in them. The show's a little too political for me sometimes, but it's a fun show and I never miss it.
Another great show is
Corby's Twisted Pickle. It's one of those "audio blog" kind of shows, but he's got some great stories. Of of the most hilarious aspects of the show is that his wife doesn't know the show exists. He's been doing it for more than a year now, he's flown to California twice for the Podcast Expo, he's got tons of fans contributing all kinds of things to his show. And she has no idea. She's even been on the show before, when he recorded her with his handheld digital recorder. And their 3-year-old daughter is a regular contributer to the show. Man, is the wife going to be surprised one of these days...
If you prefer the wacky morning show format, two very professional-sounding shows are
Red Bar Radio and
Nobody LIkes Onions. Red Bar does some hilarious prank calls and has probably the most professional sounding podcast I've ever heard. And you might remember Nobody Likes Onions from an old PLA Radio episode. The host is kind of a wanna-be shock jock, always trying really hard to be as offensive as possible. Both very popular and very good shows. I don't listen to either of them very often, only because their shows are very long and frequent. I don't have the time to keep up with them.
There's tons more that I listen to. I'll post them all on here later. You can find podcasts on pretty much any topic, though. Two good directories are
podcastpickle.com and
podcastalley.com. There's even podcasts for the KKK and pedophiles. Now
that's free radio.
