Loop Numbers
« on: December 21, 2012, 04:33:59 PM »
So, I have a few loops that I've found in my area code.

I had a question though: Why can't I find the other end of the loop?

Take this one for example: 248-460-9996

You hear the tone being blasted like what's supposed to happen when you call into the one side of the loop, but then I can't find the other side of the loop anywhere.

Whenever I call any loops in my area code, there's never another side to them, and I've found six or seven.

Upon calling 9997, you get a busy signal. On other loops, you get the "I'm sorry, this number has been disconnected", and on some it's just  a person's phone number that rings and everything.

Any idea where I could find the other end of these loops?

Also, for your troubles:

I've seen loops before where a single phone number is both sides of the loop.  Have you tried calling the number twice at the same time?

Calling both sides didn't work, unfortunately. Still same tone on both phones.

Also, thanks for the passcode! With some quick googleing, is it true I can change recorded error messages with this?!

Are there still "blank"/test numbers that you can call and just sit on the line with no activity?

I didn't dial the wrong number, you picked up the wrong phone.

Yeah, I've found a few of them here and there.

this might seem obvious but did you try going one number up or down from the loop line?

ie 707-374-0020 (Line A) 707-374-0021 or 0019 for Line B?

Yeah, I had tried that before. Still didn't work. It's annoying, I really wish I could have some working loops on my hands.  :P

I tried dialing a few of those numbers and they just sound like milliwatts (1004hz) to me. The are probably not loop numbers.

So what would the point be of having random milliwatt lines sitting on a ton of XXX-XXX-9996 lines? I've found tons of them, can't really seem to find a reason as to why.

Also, what would a true loop line sound like then? Any different?
