I have worked in the central office in that picture and we have nothing to do with the pay phones. The toll office on 3rd street did have an empty phone stand in front of it for years but they finally removed it a few months back. The pay phone business was sold off several years ago. Sort of like Ameritech security and Ameritech cellular(now verizon) has not had anything to do with Ameritech in several years. Ameritech does not actually exist anymore, it was bought out by SBC and the brand name Ameritech has been phased out. You are going to see the Ameritech name on things for a long time because they do not want to spend the money on new signs.

Love this website. I get lots of hangups from 465-9873.Any idea where that is?
How can buy that phone booth? It would go great with my Alton collection!
Not to bust your balls RBCP, but why don't you just use an ANI to get the unlabeled payphone's numbers? (Yeah, I know the real reason: You're just too lazy and plus Coleen can't resist your hot monkey loving, so you never leave the house.) You rule, man!
i would like to say that i thought the photos of the phone were a great idea... maybe we could start a gallery of pay phones or something were there would be a great gathering of ripped off payphones across the country.. hell why not make it the world... any comments just email me.. please.. my box is pretty empty:(....
