Title: Oh Noes! window password
Post by: M-26-7 on January 21, 2007, 06:51:43 AM
I cleared my windows password, but it doesn't seem to have worked.I'm locked out of my computer what should I do? P.S. I tried my old passwordit didn't work
UPDATE: I found a program that will do it, but I'm rather confused (see rank) about what this means: You only need to type in pairs of lines for users that you wish to recover passwords for. An example is given below.
There should be no spaces and there should be two lines (remove any spaces that may be present). The Username must be entered as well. Make sure you put all the colons in the right places.

If you google around, you'll find lots of password recovery software.
Here is an interesting hack though: http://internetbusinessdaily.net/how-to-hack-a-window-xp-admins-password/ (http://internetbusinessdaily.net/how-to-hack-a-window-xp-admins-password/)
And here is a Linux Bootable CD image that will detect and reset the password for you: http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/ (http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/)

Is there anyway to access a command line without logging in? I've done it before but it was on another, older computer and by mistake.

Yeah, you can use the windows recovery console, but you'll need your windows disk to do that, I believe.

Do you have a recovery boot disk? Maybe even a recovery partition?

Or you may be able to hit F8 at boot, bringing you to the boot menu. Go to Advanced Options and choose Windows Safe Mode with Command Prompt.

All you need is Hiren’s BootCD 8.6. It's a bootable ISO that contains around 100 utilities, one of them being Active Password Changer 3.0. It will go into your Windows SAM file and replace your current hashed password with a blank hashed password.
Do you have a recovery boot disk? Maybe even a recovery partition?
There's no way with a recovery disk. It's not technically the OS since it can only restore an image of the os.

my friend made me a boot cd that actually cracks the password, not just resets it. It worked to figure out exactly what my password was in about 7 minutes.
