I would like to mount one of those on a hat, and just have it turn off things wherever I went.  Maybe even attach a few extra IR transmitters to it so I can affect things on all sides of me.

I have heard of people doing that, in fact. Personally, I am more or less interested in disrupting sports games while I am at the bar.

I use my palm with novi remote to turn on AND off various TV's. TV B Gon is cheaper, but a palm works alot better.

I have one. The range kinda sucks, but I can turn off all the TVs in my sight when I eat at Ruby Tuesday's.

I still have my Radio Shack analog watch (http://www.phonelosers.org/fun-with-radio-shacks-new-universal-remote/) but I haven't used it in a couple years.  I also have a Pocket PC with a built-in remote program that controls everything.  But that looks a little obvious in restaurants and bars, having the bright giant screen.

The TV B Gone is perfect, because I wouldn't have to sit there and program it beforehand.  There are a couple Ebay stores (http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?cgiurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2F&fkr=1&from=R8&satitle=TV+B+Gone&category0=&submitSearch=Search) offering the TV B Gone for $5.00 right now.

Thinkgeek sells something similar that does better than the Rat Shack watch (I used to have one also), which works as a universal remote, is extremely small, and doesn't require code input.

I just got this in the other day because my TV remote stopped working a while ago for no apparent reason...
http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/electronic/884f/

I purchased a similar one off of ebay (different colors and under a different name I think), but it is the exact same thing and pretty much the same price. The one I got off of ebay worked great for a while until that too randomly stopped working (I was mid-way through changing my volume one day and it lost signal of the tv and I can't get it to work on any tvs since).  The Ninja remote I just got from thinkgeek has been acting retarded too for my TV in my room... losing the TV's signal at random times then taking forever to find it again to re-configure it. I usually just use a pair of pliers to gently hold the mute button (used to find the tv) down because it's tough to keep your thumb pressed on it for a long time without it cramping up.

Maybe its just my TV that is gay, and not the remote's fault, but I don't know.
Probably gonna bring it into school one of these days to see if I can get it to work on some TV's in the class rooms, which might lead to a mild amusement factor.

I have t.v. B gone. (fig 1.0) I thas a nice range and can even go through walls.
Fig 1.0 > http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e3/Desert-Eagle-chrome-p1030142.jpg
It's pretty funny to turn off TVs, but what I really want is something to change channels. It would be pretty funny to screw around with t.v.s in resturants like that.

The Ninja Remote can change channels, volume, mute, and turn the TV on/off. First you just hold the mute button down while pointing at the TV, wait for MUTE to kick in on the TV then let off of the button real fast... hit Mute again to turn sound back on if you want, and then from there you can do whatever.

the palm remotes have every single feature of any remote you could imagine. if I were you, i'd buy a cheap palm or pocket pc on ebay, and use that.

With the older Palms, you were lucky to get more than a couple of feet with their remotes.  My Palm V couldn't make it across my living room.  They used to sell plug in devices for those Palms, which had longer range IRs on them.

My current Pocket PC, on the other hand, can make it across any restaurant or bar with no problems.

I used to have a palm zire (B&W) that worked pretty well. The rangeg wasn't amazing and it had to be pointed in exactly the right direction. I've seen them on craigslist and ebay for 20 or less, I wonder if you could do a solder job with a different IR transmitter...

The MAKE Blog had a mod for the TV B Gone. You basically gave it a bigger powersource (a 9V I think) and a whole fat array of IR LEDs. Increased the a whackload.

There are instructions for it on instructables.com. I wonder if it works much better than a regular one.

I received one today and tested one by going downtown. I went up to some design company's street-level display of televisions and turned them all off. It was pretty funny to see it happen and I wonder when I go by tomorrow if any of them will still be off.

I bought myself a small universal remote in the bargain bin in a hardware store. at first i thought id just switch of Tvs , but then , as I was eating lunch in Macdonald's and they had this huge plasma Tv , so I thought I'd piss off the "employees" a bit . So long story short the Tv happened to have a porn station not disabled , so I sat there for half an hour with the porn running cos the retards couldn't find their remote. :D

Can you give me instructions for that thing? I would love to be in a resturant while someone was on their cellphone and just kill their call.

i bought it from a website: http://www.globalgadgetuk.com/rx9000.htm
it was about five hundred bucks USD, and comes with a cool warning:

FCC wil fine you $11k if caught using it in the US.  My own mediocre attempt at humor has been highly amusing to myself..  It's cool in restaurants, malls, on the tram, whatever.
It's easy to conceal, but the three aerials are kinda fragile.  the light is blinking in the video meaning the battery is dying.
And that was a CDMA phone, which usually turns off calls, and reception completely instantly.  Nextels network usually takes a few seconds longer i have noticed. :)

Those things are lethal! Oh, think of the applications!   ;)

but a $11,000 is not something to mess with either...

Yeah , and there kind of hard to rebuild though because the circuit boards aren't labeled at all.
