Does anybody know if its possible or how I could go about swapping files from my Desktop to a laptop in a timely manner? I want to/need to reformat the Desktop and don't feel like having to re-find and download some stuff so it seems using the laptop as a mule to hold the files so I don't lose them would be easier.

You could set up a network over LAN, for pretty fast transfer speeds.
or use an external HD
I have a 120 GB external thats been working fine for about a year and a half now. I actually store most of my big files on it because my internal HD is shit.

Completely forgot about the LAN thing... they're both on the same router so I could do that. And I have been thinking about getting an external HD just for more space and so if the computer ever goes down then I won't have to worry about my files being lost.
Might just give in and put that first paycheck to use on the external HD.

that's actually a really good idea. I've had to clean old data dvd's and some of them cant be fixed, an external HD is always nice to have in case you want to just format randomly like I do. Thinkgeek.com sells a usb cord that has 2 male plugs and a powered 1-1 hub in the same cord. so it's like direct transfer.

best space for the money, plus its somewhat shock mounted, and stackable with more of them in the future. dont get the 350gb though, the 250 is the best value.
