Title: Scanners
Post by: Tachyon on March 26, 2007, 09:18:53 PM
I think I'll buy a scanner tomorrow, and the only place around is Circuit City, which has replaced Rat Shack in my town (possibly all of Canadia?). They have two handheld scanners, one of which is a lot more expensive that the other.

http://www.thesourcecc.com/estore/category.aspx?language=en-CA&catalog=Online&category=FreqScanners&pagenum=1&sort=1

Is 100 channels enough to have some fun with rent-a-cop frequencies, restaurants, fire department, railroad, and that sort of thing, or should I stop being cheap and spring for the uber-expensive one?

I basically want something I can carry around and listen to in malls and things when I'm bored, and possibly to prank with and amuse my friends.

Funny im wanting a police scanner to but dont know which one to get.Instead of circuit city though im thinking of buying from radio shack and getting a uber expensive one, at radio shack they got a bigger selection online that can be picked up at the store but im not sure which one to get because i dont know much about scanners.I had a scanner that i bought  only it was like 20 something years old, but my friend said that the old ones could pick up frequencies that the new kind couldnt find.Unfortunately that broke and now i am lookiingfor a new one. From what i could tell there are trunk, nascar and regular scanners so which type do i get and how many channels is good.Money isnt a problem cause i want a good one

You need a clue as well. They were using a modified HAM radio, a Yaseu VX7r, to be exact.

Could you like, maybe, uh, go somewhere else to post?  I think AOL has a wide range of forums with people you might get along with better.
