Where is it legal to use this stuff? I had high hopes for Mexico, what with all their legal drugs, but I believe it's illegal there, too. Someone help me out here.

The real amount of actual street LSD has fallen off sharply since 2002. You see, around then, they busted these two guys in Kansas making the world's supply in a missle silo. (Don't believe me? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LSD#United_States:_1970_to_the_present)
Ever since then, LSD has been available in limited amounts around major metropolitan areas. Usually on the west coast, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland and LA. I had a chance to try LSD two summers ago, it was pretty great. As always with psychedelics, set and setting are important.
Also, 5-MeO-AMT (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5-MeO-AMT) is being passed around as LSD nowadays. Buyer beware.

I'm not worried too much about getting caught or being ripped off, just wondering where it is legal.
Also I don't believe most of the shit the DEA says, especially about their effect on illicit substances.

As far as I know, its illegal pretty much throughout the world. Amsterdam sells mushrooms, peyote and other ethnogens in 'smart shops', but not LSD. Mexico has drug laws, but well greased palms will usually look the other way.

there's about one death a year since 2003 and they are mostly unconfirmed or second-hand accounts. Doesn't sound too bad.
How is an LSD trip different from shrooms, longer?

Shrooms gave me a more visceral, colourful and psychedelic experience as opposed to LSD. However, I had a really bad trip on shrooms, quite possibly because I took too much for a first time.
But watching the sunset over Broadway from the very north end of Manhattan on LSD was on the best things I've ever seen thus far.

My daddy is a cop. I would totally get grounded if I ever did drugs, so I am glad murd0c is able to help you out here. ;) But I am pretty sure it is illegal everywhere, at least for recreational purposes.

this one time at a wedding my mom gave me a sip of the wine and i swear i got drunk!! haha and my dad was like, he tried to ground me but i didnt care because i just told him I DONT CARE GET IT!!! and he TOTALLY flipped out at me, he was like f-this and f-you, he was so mad!!

Murd0c's dead on with the availability, I've heard this for years for never checked this online... I've understood there were four 'national sources' until circa 2000-01 when all but one was shut down.
7-8 years ago I was at a guy's house that had nearly a 2-liter of liquid, ready to be dropped... ever since he got ripped off I haven't heard or seen the likes of Lysergia around here. The manmade LSD experience is way different than the right shroom... much harder to regulate, you can easily trip for days!
WTF is 5-MeO-AMT anyway? Isn't there a shorter name for it?
LSD sucks anyway (rly) - after a certain amount you are genuinely not in control of your emotions. Just stick to underage drinking.
