Title: Are you smarter than a TV producer?
Post by: mr_doc on April 01, 2007, 07:49:34 PM
Dear Jammie,

How does this shitty Jeff Foxworthy show work? Do they use extraordinarily smart children? Do they find adults so dumb they are mildly retarded? Or is it a combination of the two?

Please watch and tell me. I can't. I've lost enough faith in humanity with each successful Wayan's movie released.

Thank you.

I think it's a mix of both ideas.  Intelligent children + Billy Bob Jimmy Joe from Dothan, Alabama= Are you smarter than a 5th grader.  Foxworthy lends a lot to the show, because of his comedy routine, and the fact that he himself is a redneck, but is leagues more intelligent than a 5th grader

Dear mr_doc,

According to a couple of the articles I found, it doesn't have to do with either of those.  Seems like looks and acting ability are important for the kid roles and attractiveness is the primary criteria for the contestants... and if you want to make the argument that attractive people are dumber...

While I found the show kind of boring (rbcp and I watched it when it first came out and I really resented these STUPID people getting all this ridiculous money), I think the genius of it is that it is a show that can be watched by the entire family.  Kids and parents can watch.  I actually was at a bar a few weeks ago and after having a few beers with friends, it was the greatest show ever.  All of us were trying to guess the answers.

And I like Jeff Foxworthy.  Even though he's all country, he appeals to us Yankees because he makes fun of rednecks ;)

Thanks for the question!
Love,
jammie

Isn't that true of every game show besides Jeopardy and The Price is Right?

Jeopardy the screen for smarter people and Price is Right apparently lets any nut on stage. All game shows screen their contestants though. It just seems from the ads that this show is choosing smart precocious kids and airhead adults. It doesn't seem like the show would get very far if the adults pwned the kids like they would if we chose 'real' people. The lady on the ad wasn't sure what a right triangle was for god's sake.

I guess I hate this idea because I feel like we should be better educating the people in Bumfuck Arkansas instead of making dumb shows that target them as an audience. Or maybe the show is really targeted at people who want to laugh at the stupid rednecks. Either way it seems wrong...

I guess my question is:
pie?

The MJ wacky morning show used to have a segment where he would stump one of the other DJ guys with 5th grade questions.  I'm sure he ranted about how the network TV show stole his idea.  Nobody Likes Onions has also been doing a similar segment for the past 6 months or so.  Not surprising since NLO's show is in the same city as MJ's.

I've watched two episodes now.  I think that it's kind of lame how the contestants win so much money for answering basic questions.  I saw a guy win $50,000 and he had to get help from the 5th grader twice.  There should be more risk involved where they can lose all their money.  Why give them $50,000 for being a dumbass?

If "the terrorists" were smarter, they'd just put on really shitty TV shows that made you retarded if you watched them.

Oh, fuck!... I mean horse apples.
