Title: Explain to me Dwyane.
Post by: PHISH-PHREAK on April 25, 2007, 11:45:23 AM: Why is Dwyane Wade's name spelled DWYANE and not DWAYNE? I've heard rumors that it is his dads name, and I've heard other rumors that it is because of an error on his birth certificate.

Dear PHISH-PHREAK,

His dad is Dwyane Sr.

What my dad, the former NYC cop, told me when I was younger and saw some basketball player named "Anferny" on TV was that a lot of these players come from piss poor neighborhoods (Dwyane was raised in the South Side of Chicago) where people are uneducated. When asked to spell the name they choose for their child on a birth certificate, they often misspell it because they just don't know any better. He said he saw it all the time as a cop. His girlfriend also used to teach inner city kids and saw horrible misspellings of names all the time too.
