Title: My cell phone
Post by: rbcp on May 23, 2007, 02:44:17 PM
(http://z.about.com/d/cellphones/1/0/X/P/lg-vx9800-g.jpg)

My cell phone is an LG VX9800.  It flips open and has a full keyboard, which I love.  I've had some form of full keyboard phone for about two years now and I'd hate to be without one since I text a lot.  My phone plays mp3 files, which I can store on its 256 MB miniSD card.  It takes shitty 1.3 megapixel pictures.  My ringtone is redbox tones.

My biggest complaint about it is that it won't let me use its bluetooth to give my laptop or PDA an internet connection.  But it's built-in internet is good enough to check my email accounts and get basic info that I might need.  I can access Yahoo instant messenger, AIM and MSN messenger.  The one thing I don't do a lot of is talk on my phone.  I'm using their minimum minutes plan but I rarely use even half of what they give me.

What kind of phone do you have?

What service provider do you have?

You will have to enable DUN(Dial-Up-Networking).

It's Verizon Wireless.  They purposely disable bluetooth internet.  I read up on a way to work around it but I've never bothered yet.

My phone is a Samsung D807. I like it, although my screen broke last week, forcing me to draw up complex graphical representations along with direction/number of clicks to access various functions of this phone.

First phone was a Nokia 5110, then a Samsung X480 (I've gone three two of these), then a Motorola RAZR, then my current D807.

My phone is made by the #2 most popular cell phone company in South Korea, The Pantech C300 w00t.

I know its ugly but I love it. It makes me feel like zoolander

Wow!  All of you guys (except RBCP) uses Cingular!  Great!

I have the Samsung Blackjack, it's a smartphone, however I'm not smart enough to figure any of the features out.  I just make and recive phone calls.

Samsung SPH-A660 that I got for five bucks at a garage sale with all sorts of creepy text messages for the weird scarred lady I bought it from.

I have a RAZR V3, and my keypad smells like electrical burning, and I can hear GSM hum during my calls. Oh, and my battery life sucks. But other than that, I haven't paid for my Cingular service in a couple years, so who am I to be complaining.

Cingular isn't the only company that uses GSM.

I have a Motorola v710 on the TELUS network. It sucks ass, as it needs to be rebooted once a day, has a tendency not to work when the temperature is below 0 C (32 F)--it's even worse when it gets to -20 C (-8 F), and just like RBCP's phone, the bluetooth is locked down like Fort Knox. However, this phone has somehow survived a year of me dropping it on concrete, surviving phone calls in -40 C/F weather, and me tinkering with its firmware.

Ya, the v710 sucked major ass, it's bigger brother, the E815 wasn't much better.

i870

Have you had any luck trying that workaround to use your LG as a modem?

Once a Canadian carrier has the iPhone--likely Rogers as they're the main GSM network here--I'll be dropping my contact with TELUS and switching. As much as I prefer CDMA and want analogue mobile phone coverage, the iPhone will be able to do a lot of things that I want to do when I am out of my home.

Virgin mobile is pretty neat if you don't use your cell much. I pay about $6.50 a month which is the minimum otherwise they shut you off. You can watch ads on their site to add 5min a day to your account.

The coolest thing about my phone is it has a little flashlight on the top which I use constantly. Oh yeah and it's free when you buy $20 in air time.

I'm kind of like the old guy who refuses to pay for technology when he can get something that works for free.

My first (and now backup) phone: Kyocera KX-1 (soHo)
http://www.kyocera-wireless.com/soho-phone/

It sucked and most of the components eventually broke, but it almost always got service.

My current phone: Kyocera Milan
(http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:anDg4yn72-97hM:http://www.centennialrd.com/images/moviles/MMSPage/Milan.png)

though it's a newer phone, it's somehow slower, but it's also slightly sturdier (at least mine is), and it doesn't randomly shut off as much.

Sony Ericsson w810i-  Unlocked (not locked to any specific carrier) and Unbranded (as if it was straight for the SE factory without any carrier added junk and locks).

Got it like a week ago to upgrade from the Motorola v551.

Has some nice features to it... 2mp camera that does alright, can play full mp3s as ringtones since its unbranded,
very easy to transfer images-games-music-etc. between the phone and the comp (just drag and drop from the folders)... and more stuff as well.

Just gotta get around to modding it with the back of another phone (k750) so I have a lens cover.
