So I just bought a new scanner from radio shack. The problem is that my house is in a boring suburb with not too much going on. I'm thinking about returning the scanner but I was wondering if you guys knew of any other fun things to do with one?
thanks

I got the local airport and one of the local channels on mine. Also i can get the CB radios and listen to the ham radios.

Shoot up your school.

You can buy a giant antenna from Radio Shack for under $100. Extend your listening capabilities beyond your suburb. Either that or leave the house with it.
-
Did you get your scanner with the pie dispenser?
-
Well I was going to, but apparently the FCC prohibits scanners from dispensing certain kinds of pies, I was really bummed about that

Take it back, then go buy a Yeasu VX7R or other handheld with extended recieve, open it up, remove a diode amd then go downtown.
Transmit on every frequency that you hear people talking on until you get caught by the cops. When he cops try to arrest you, outrun them til you get to your school and then take Tachyon's advice.

You mean there's rarely anyone talking? You can use this program made by some ham in europe to record then listen to the wave file. It's the best VOX recording program I've tried and it's free. I have 2 old computers set up on my porch just to record some local cab companies and the PD. I love hearing a cab get dispatched, then sending cabs from all the other companies and telling them to hurry. Much whining ensues.

That's actually pretty cool, I need some batteries.

I like answering the dispatcher when he/she calls for a certain car:
Dispatcher: "car 11"
Me: "car 11"
Dispatcher: "Pickup at 5th and Benson"
Me: "Fuck off"
Dispatcher: "excuse me!?!?"
Car 11: "wtf?"
Me: *starts playing the a-team theme song*
