I hate the words 'condoning' and 'befriended'.
They sound like they should mean the opposite of what they actually mean.

Not really. He just doesn't like the words. I can't talk about linguistics if he just doesn't like the words.

I hate people who say the word "harassment" by accenting the first syllable instead of the second.
