You need to solder it in.
And you can use the battery as long as its 12 to 13.8 volts

Hey xbit_11 are you using the Cobra 19 Ultra III from wally world? If so.. can you help me find the freq crystal? There is nothing that looks like the video but a silver almost rectangle at the edge that reads "Z10.250". Is that what you replaced?
Thanks man,
Yellow

That's a capacitor, but what the hell...rip it out and try it anyway!

I'm surprised those Cobras don't use the Z09 capacitors, manufactured in Orange County.

That's a 6.5 MHz crystal which won't work.  You actually need the 6.5536 MHz crystal. (Every little hertz makes a difference!)  Radio Shack used to carry them, but quit selling them in 2001 when everyone mysteriously quit buying them.  So now we have to resort to opening up toasters and space heaters to find these crystals.

I have a question about that video also, so instead of creating a new topic I'll just hijack yours.  :p

This question may be really retarded but I'm very new to RF. In that video rbcp made it pretty clear that the CB had to have a digital screen, I'm wondering why that is. Is that due to the fact that you need to broadcast in digital? Or is it still broadcasting in analog?

The reason I want to know is that I'm looking into GNU radio as a cost effective way to get started with RF. But from what I understand of it so far, you need special hardware to broadcast and receive in digital using GNUR.

I live just down the street from a BK so I could mess with them from the comfort of my home.

digital screen does not equal digital signal

digital screen does not equal digital signal

Well yeah, I didn't think so. But what was the reason for the digital screen?

What does it matter? It was a hoax. The advantage of digital over analog readouts(in the non April fools world) is that its a more accurate way of confirming that you're on frequency.

If you want to mess with a burger king, shell out a few hundred for a Yeasu VX-7r or suitable alternative.

That was a hoax? damn you rbcp.

But the siginificance is that I'm not going to use a CB period. I plan on using GNU Radio, with GNU radio the issue has nothing to do with frequency because it's all software driven. However, extra USRP hardware is needed for digital transmissions. Thats why I want to know.
