okay, so this is more like phones in the blogosphere than phones in the news.
but, there's a blog i read, for the world's largest museum of the world's smallest versions of the world's largest things (http://worldslargestthings.blogspot.com/) in lucas, kansas. she posted some pictures (http://www.flickr.com/photos/worldslargestthings/sets/72157605455724242/) of a volkswagen beetle modified to look like a telephone (http://www.thephonecar.com/)...and some of them show the phone car parked by a payphone in lucas, which is one of the coolest-looking payphones i've ever seen in person.
