Title: Beige Boxing remotely with a cell phone
Post by: phonedetective on July 02, 2008, 02:56:32 PM
Call forwarding without hacking an account?  If someone could get a 2.5mm jack for a wired cell phone headset, or just the headset itself, and find the wires that are used for the microphone; one could connect it to the red and green wires in the beige box and then to the cell phone.  If the cell phone could be set up to automatically answer a call when a headset is set up, then someone could call it up and listen on the lines the beige box is connected to.

                                 |||
                                  |
                           To cell phone

Example:  Call up cell phone from home phone, cell answers and plays whatever is on the beige box line.  Play DTMF tones and you are now able to call from that other line.

Is this remotely possible?

This sounds pretty similar to those "maroon box" plans, except of course that was supposed to involve using a cordless phone (and naturally there was no dialing in involved). Anyways, yeah, to actually bother to answer the obvious you have apparently never taken apart a cell phone. It's nowhere similar to a landline so there is no wiring that you could use to establish said beige box. However lets look past that and say you did manage to make said connection work, how exactly are you supposed to make it automatically pick up? I know it's not a feature on what few cell phones I have ever used (don't believe in the things), and I'm admittedly no programmer but I don't believe there is any function you could call in J2ME/C/whatever to simply instruct the phone to pick up. So yeah, in short...

No.

Most home phone systems are connected by X10 nowadays. You can wire it like so:

                        |                   |
