Title: Telephone Songs for the show
Post by: rbcp on August 04, 2006, 07:18:58 AM
Jenn Martino from http://www.thisisarecording.com (http://www.thisisarecording.com) just emailed me a nice list of telephone-related songs that I might want to use in PLA Radio at some point.  Quite a few of these I haven't even heard of.  Here's the list:

00 Andrew Dice Clay Phone Sex              02:19  mp3    556,192
01 Tommy Tutone 867-5309 Jenny             03:47  mp3  3,646,738
02 Blondie Call Me                         03:35  mp3  6,320,128
03 New Edition Mr. Telephone Man           03:58  mp3  3,815,604
04 Meri Wilson Telephone Man               02:01  mp3  2,438,878
05 Phil Collins Don't Lose My Number       06:36  wma  3,210,563
06 Weird Al Yankovic Phony Calls           03:22  mp3  3,245,915
07 Sugar Ray Answer the Phone              03:35  wma  1,747,295
08 Violent Femmes Telephone Book           01:42  mp3  1,640,451
09 Less Than Jake Jenny (867-5309)         02:16  mp3  4,374,478
10 Depeche Mode Personal Jesus             04:56  mp3  4,747,487
11 Kraftwerk The Telephone Call            08:03  mp3  9,680,896
12 Nitrous Oxide The Telephone Song        02:30  mp3  2,405,065
13 Outkast I'll Call Before I Come         04:18  wma  2,102,103
14 Public Enemy 911 is a Joke              03:17  mp3  3,167,579
15 Raffi Banana Phone                      03:16  mp3  2,355,536
16 Henrietta Pussycat Meow Meow Beautiful  02:20  mp3  4,508,029
17 Unknown Prank Collect Calls             01:39  mp3  1,599,488

Does anyone else know of any other songs that feature telephones or even small phone bits?  Two I can think of is the operator error recording in Weird Al's Albuquerque song and then the cool little international dialing sequence from that Pink Floyd song.

That sugar ray song is a piece of shit.

You could use the part from Sledgehammer where Peter Gabriel's saying, "All you have to do is call me... call me anytime."

There's also Never There by Cake.

That's all that comes to mind off the top of my noggin.

One bit I've been meaning to put in an episode is from Weird Al's Albuquerque.  The part where he sings, "If you'd like to make a call please hang up and try again.  If you need help hang up and then call your operator."

I was waiting to see that get mentioned.

Also, as much as I despise ELO, it ought to be mentioned that they have a few fone-related tunes out there. "Telephone Line" is a really sucky song, but is filled with phreaky noises. No MF, though :(

Woke up this morning I was all alone saw your picture by the telephone
I was missing you oh so bad
Wish I had you here to hold all I've got is this touch-tone phone
So I guess I'll give you a call

Operator help me please get thru to my baby way overseas
Time's a wastin' oh so fast
Hello baby tell me is that you I don't know what we're gonna do
But for now I'm glad I got you on the line

Well it feels so fine knowing you're all right
But you're miles away lord it's not the same

Well I woke up this morning I was all alone saw your picture by the telephone
I've been missing you baby oh so bad
I love you baby with all my might come on home and squeeze me tight
Long distance lovin's gonna drive me out of my mind

My ass has fallen off due to laughter., that's what I was gonna say.

Cyndi Lauper "911" has Pee-Wee Herman at the end as the operator... it's on the True Colors album.

"You just better start sniffin' your own
rank subjugation jack 'cause it's just you
against your tattered libido, the bank and
the mortician, forever man and it wouldn't
be luck if you could get out of life alive"*

the above is part of "Knockin' On Heavens Door" by GNR when a random guy dials a phone and says that. I thought that it has class I don't know.

FB, you can't live with him....       because he's unbearable!

P. C. Irving + Tim Bryson "Cap N Crunch" - it's in the Poolhall Junkies movie, which of course has nothing to do with fones.

How about "Dialing In It" that's on Hell Atlantic's website?
http://hellatlantic.monoperative.net/ (http://hellatlantic.monoperative.net/)
Or the Anna In the Dark songs from a few years ago where the phone mobs and prank call bits were mixed in?
