Thanks to Tully, I've been playing around with trixbox all day. Mostly just trying to get things to work right since I'm such a newb at all this. If anyone wants to call into it, the phone number is 813-377-1191. I got the cheapest package which only allows 2 incoming phone calls at a time and I'm not sure what kind of message you'll get if 2 people are on and the system is busy.
I've been wanting to set one of these up for a long time. Not quite sure what I'll do with it, but I'll try to make it something fun. Any ideas? I'd definitely like to set up a "voice BBS" like the old Defcon voice bridge used to have. I loved that thing. Hopefully there's a way to do that with trixbox. I'm thinking some choose your own adventure type stories would be fun too.
I won't be setting up a conference bridge on it since it's using my home's bandwidth and would probably sound shitty, especially on the 1.77GHz machine I've got it running on.

your trixbox lied to me. it told me i could talk to Rob T Firefly if i pressed 8. i pressed 8, and i did not get to talk to Rob. in fact, it told me it was not a valid extension.

Just for you, I should make pressing 8 actually forward to RTF's cell phone. I'm sure he would love that.
It's too bad the outbound rates are too high. Otherwise I could set up a "click here to be connected to a random pay phone in a busy area" option.

My trixbox locks up once every 24 hours and I have to reboot it. It's really killing my motivation to do anything fun with this, since I don't want to have to reboot it every single morning. So much for linux being more stable than Windows.

well mr brad carter if you hate linux so much why not use asterisk for windows, its legit, smells great, and has a cute gui. Sure it doesnt have the fancy freepbx gui but who needs that anyway? It does take a little more work but you get alot more out of it by doing it with straight asterisk as trixbox can be limiting. I only recommend trixbox to people to get them interested and really everyone moves on to just asterisk because cli is just more fun! Also if your using flowroute your best bet is to get a basic number with the flat rate unlimited $7 a month and not making outbound calls, or they rape you!
