OK, which one of you did this? ;D

Pranksters convince hotel guest to heave TV, fridge out window

A sleepy guest at a Whitehorse hotel fell victim to a late-night hoax Sunday when pranksters pretending to be hotel staff instructed him to hurl two appliances out of his second-storey window as an emergency measure.

Staff at the Edgewater Hotel in downtown Whitehorse said the Victoria man was sleeping in his room when callers woke him up shortly after 11 p.m. to say there was a gas leak in the building.

The callers, who said they were from the front desk, told the guest he had to increase air flow into the building by throwing the room's television and mini-refrigerator through his window.

The man was also instructed to pull the fire alarm, waking the Edgewater's other guests.

"The poor guy in the room is, of course, feeling pretty bashful and somewhat stupid, but he's not going to be held liable or anything," David Goold, the hotel's night attendant, told CBC News early Monday morning.

"He can't really be blamed for what you're doing, half-awake, under the front desk's supposed instructions, which is who the people on the phone said they were."

Goold said he later received two separate tips from callers in Ontario, who said the people responsible for the hoax were bragging about their conquest in an online chat room.

Goold passed on the tips to Whitehorse RCMP, who say the incident is under investigation.

According to the comments on that news page, it's another prank by Dex, the same guy who did the KFC hoax.  I love these pranks, but he's going to end up getting someone killed.  I want the audio for this!

That's your alibi folks, if you ever get caught doing something stupid tell the cops a prank caller made you do it. They'll understand

This is the same guy that used to run pranknet.org.  He and another person did the whole Deltree prank to some guy. This shit is getting out of control! Obviously this shows how easy it is to trick people and yes some of the responses are funny, But fuck, what's going to happen if someone gets a bad cut from the glass or something along those lines?  What do you think Dex is going to get when he's caught by the Authorities?

Two Things I love about these pranks:

1) Shows exactly the stupidity of Americans and why we got into this economic mess in the first place with humans living with this amount of brain matter.

2) I cannot wait for this to get out of control, a real crime will happen and this guy becoming fucked over like Mitnik but way more deserving of it.  ;D

What I am not waiting for:

Them to blame the PLA for these.  >:(

I personally think it's unfortunate (and hilarious) that people trust the phone so much. I mean, what the hell? just because it comes through an earpiece it's like god telling a christen to start shooting babies or something. People need to exercises some common sense. If the magical voice tells you to strip naked and start peeing on people maybe you need to start questioning the magical voice. Until people start doing that those who exploit their trust are going to have a pretty fun time, I think. If someone gets killed over a prank call it'll most likely be because of a number of failures that really shouldn't of been there in the first place. The pranker wont be the only one to blame and their motive most likely wouldn't of been to kill anyone.

I've been watching a bunch of PrankNet's crap on YouTube. It is so funny but so horrible at the same time.

It'd be pretty easy for someone to get a serious injury when they're busting down a 7 foot tall sliding glass door.  And sure, Dex is sort of helping along with natural selection, but I still wouldn't want to be the one to put someone in the hospital over a prank call.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strip_search_prank_call_scam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strip_search_prank_call_scam) has some interesting reading on the fast food strip search pranks, which is another examples of prank calls taking things a little too far.  They caught the guy that had been doing those for 10 years, but he ended up not getting charged with anything because there was no direct evidence linking him to them.  Of course, this guy wasn't recording his phone calls and posting them to the net.  Here's the surveillance video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKq1EpB2gNo) of the girl getting strip searched and abused.

Also the Milgram experiment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milgram_experiment) is really interesting to read.  It's "a series of social psychology experiments conducted by Yale University psychologist Stanley Milgram, which measured the willingness of study participants to obey an authority figure who instructed them to perform acts that conflicted with their personal conscience."

Ah, the Milgram experiment. I suggest watching Derren Brown's version.

I am not sure if this one is real, but the original experiment is, and this video is a good way to get an idea of how scary it is.

If you ever watched Repo Man there's a scene where they kinda recreate it. It's the scene where the lady with the robotic hand coerces Ottos girlfriend to zap him with electric shocks.

@milgram experiment reference.

Some of the statistics and revisions of the experiment showed that people were less likely to comply when the authority figure was on a phone or in another room.  The proximity of the authority directly correlated to the compliance of the individual.  Also, when the person chose the amount of punishment, rather than the scientist, very few people reached 450 volts, the maximum punishment allowed.

Still, it's a very applicable real world example.
