I'd just strip the wires but it looks like you should be able to plug something into those red and green slots.
-
but what would i plug into the slots?
-
Your beige box silly!
-
yeah but i cant just put the wires in there im not sure how icould just "plug" something into it
-
Why not? Hmm, what's slender and pointy and made of a conducting material that would fit in there? Maybe a nail of some sort? But if all else fails, I'd probably just strip the wires. If you're concerned about damaging the phone box then you should leave your name and address in the box so that the owner can contact you to exchange insurance information.

If you loosen the screw or bolt in that hole right above "telephone company access only," that whole left side would probably open to reveal normal screwdown terminals or even plain old phone sockets.
-
i know right? that's the first thing to open on those!

Quoted for complete and total truth. Follow these instructions on this old post and you will saunter down the road of victory. But if you want a righteous hack, get one of those large green boxes outside of your house. Usually in the front lawn. Those phone terminals that big companies use to route their calls. Oooooh, nice.

open the tops of those 2 connectors on the right side of the NID, and you will see a standard telephone jack, you can plug a standard line cord directly into... this will disconnect the inside wire going into the house, so whoever is inside will not have dial tone while you are connected here... if wanting to monitor the line, then opening the black nut on the left side of the box will provide you access to the drop wire, where you can connect your alligator clips to the gel-filled connector...
