Is that the price for an EARLY registration? Like when you sign up you get a free system with your distribution of choice loaded up on it? Because if I get a computer with it then I'll consider dropping 499.
Linux is free.
The conventions are not.

Don't worry. The tickets may be $500, but they are GPLed. You can make as many copies as you like.

They actually have a super secret deal where you can get in for free provided you volunteer 12hrs helping out with conference related things. They only offered us one free pass for our booth, but a bunch of other people ended up wanting to go so we're all getting in that way...and we didnt have to pay for the booth either.
And yes linus (and many other kernel developers) will be there.

My own mediocre attempt at humor has been highly amusing to myself., i think Linus ruined my life.

linus didn't ruin my life...he just helped make it geekier.
although...i doubt i'd have started using linux when i did had you not kept talking about it in IRC, Trevelyn. i blame you. :-)
