Anyone know what the number or code the techs dial on your phone from inside your home that when dialed repeats your number back?
I guess this is a number or a code to the switch or CO.
I used to know it.

Yeah, right ::) .

It's called an ANAC, just search google for ANAC+your area code.

And find a bunch of out-dated numbers. ;D
There are still a ton of toll free anacs floating around though.

1-800-444-4444 is a easy one to remember. I think it just reads ANI but is good for most cases.

958 is used in NYC and possibly other verizon areas...
but as the other poster said 1-800-444-4444 is the one most commonly used, as 958 does not seem to work on all landline numbers any more.... I also have used 1-866-MY-ANI-IS
the toll free ANAC numbers are better than the 958 (or other code used by your local CO) because they can be used not only for landlines, but also cellular and VoIP (although depending on what your VoIP provider sends as ANI may not be accurate)

After all these months I found the number. I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth Texas area. AT&T is here. The number I was referring to that the tech used here was 9-705 and then any seven numbers following. It doesn't matter which seven as it's only going to tell you the number you're calling on.
