Title: WeakNet Linux 4 (Lite) - WEAKERTHAN
Post by: trevelyn on April 15, 2010, 02:31:45 PM
Well, I created a page with links to applications I have pre-compiled (deb's) for my OS.  I am offering all themes and images too for free, so people who don't use WNLA4 can use those too, if they like.
I will be uploading kernel headers there and such.  If anyone makes a hacking tutorial using WNLAv4, you can add the link I provide here:

This release is fucking insane.  It is probably the best thing I have ever made in my life.  I have spent weeks jamming and cramming and smashing stuff down to fit onto a single CD.  WNLA3 lite was downloaded 29,957 times from my server alone and 2,663 from Softpedia.  That puts it over 30k times.  This one, WNLA4 WEAKERTHAN, I swear is a god compared to the last release.

May 5th, Cinco De Mayo, Twenty Ten. Be there, 9pm.

Would it be a viable alternative as the main OS on my netbook as opposed to this shitty fucking Windows 7 Starter?

on an old 800MHZ 64bit AMD laptop it booted into the GUI in 15 seconds.

Which netbook do you have?  Can you boot from USB?  maybe try installing it to a USB device or an SD Card to test?  If you get it workling right let me know I want to start a cool HCL.  And if anyone uses this OS, can you rate your experience with it?

Thanks!

There's my infoz. I'll have to reboot to see if I can boot from a USB drive. I'm almost positive that I can.

Sorry to be (sort of) noobish, but how does one setup a USB drive to be bootable besides just extracting the ISO?

@Copyright, download the universal installer: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/downloads/Universal-USB-Installer/Universal-USB-Installer-v1.5.4.exe and my ISO from Softpedia, run the universal installer in Windows with the pen drive attached.

@LordNod, you should be able too, all new netbooks should be able too.  That's cool that you got the Atom, it should be pretty speedy. :)  That wasn't an option when I bought my first netbook, which was an ASUS piece of crap.

Wow, I just realized how bad that application sucks as I tried to use it!  Sorry for recommending it, but I have written a PDF on how to do it with the tool, as i was kind-of odd...

Thanks it worked well.

A few things: rather than renaming the ISO, you can just type WEAKERTHAN in the bar when you hit browse, and if you're in the right directory it will show up. (I renamed then, so I'm not sure if it actually works.)

And a typo in the last sentence:

On some machines you actually need to just set the USB device as the first boot option.

Does this install on an SD card, and can you even boot from an SD card? It'd be pretty B.A. to be able to have it on something that is secured inside of the laptop 24/7 (excluding the HDD haha)

I'm definitely looking for something to replace Windows 7 Starter as it sucks the nastiest donkey testes imaginable. I was just going to go with Ubuntu but I figure if I use WNL I can just bug you for tech support every time I break something...
