I theorize that it was removed to promote more posts being made in the forums.  Clearly, it has failed miserably.

Yeah, so lets all blame murd0c!

When I upgraded the forums to verison 2, the shoutbox stopped working.  I tried to get it working again, but it's not compatible with this version of SMF.  So I need to find a new shoutbox mod that will work.  I'll see what I can find tonight.

the shoutbox was awesome...but really, the most fun thing to do with it was write BALLS in it, so its current state is optimal :D

I've tried 4 different shoutboxes now on this new SMF version, but none of them work.  Two of them aren't made for this version.  Another one I got to work on here yesterday, but it was more like a chat room than a shoutbox and I didn't see a way to squish it into the sidebar.  The last one is supposed to work on this version of SMF, but I couldn't get it to work.  Maybe I'll mess around with that one some more this weekend.  Or maybe we'll just have to wait for the other ones to catch up with this version.

step 1: open up your handy dandy linux command line.
step 2: type at the prompt: yes balls  (or, if you're feeling particularly enterprising, (yes balls > balls.txt)
step 3: ???
step 4: profit.  and, balls.  lots of balls.
