I've been saying that I was going to do this for about the last 3 years or so and finally got around to it.
I've started totally rebuilding This Is a Recording (http://www.thisisarecording.com) And by rebuilding, I do mean rebuilding. I started over so everything is new. I rerecorded all the sounds so the sound quality is better, the editing is cleaner and the archive is more complete (all relatively speaking, of course.) ;)
Would anyone want to trade links ie link for a link? Msg me. ;D

got a banner or something?

You've already got a link to me so I don't have to link to your site. Yay!
Are you going to set up your other sites too like Electric Dreams and Touch Tone Tunes?

I just threw some together and you can find them here (http://thisisarecording.com/link-to-this-is-a-recording.html)

Of course I do. Don't be silly. Did I get them all?
Yes, most of them. Some of them will be rebuilt as well. And one has a very special surprise. You'll see. :nonsense: :nonsense: :nonsense:

added to nyphonejacks.com
would prefer a banner around 180 wide or so... either too small or too big...
if you want to add a text link in return it would be appreciated...

Thank you, kind sir, for your link. I have linked to your site as well.

Do you still accept mp3 submissions? I was dialing all over NJ/NY today, hoping to hear a special announcement about lines being out due to snow, but didn't have any luck. I used to have some kickass error recordings that I just threw away without even thinking of you. One was from the day of the 1994 L.A. earthquake where the recording said something like "Due to the earthquake, lines are unavailable." in the standard AT&T voice.
And I had one from 9/11 when I called the WTC that said "Due to the terrorist attacks and the buildings collapsing, all lines are down." Okay, I'm completely lying about that one. It was just a fast busy for several days.

Sure do! Anyone can send a submission to twpyhr@gmail.com along with how you would like to be credited (Real name, nym, anonymously) and a link to your website.

:'( Jerk.

I actually do have that one... somewhere. A post on a message board linking to This Is a Recording mentioned that very recording as an example of the fake error recordings offered on the site. ;D (I recorded it from the phone number in the file name.)
Before I add any of the old sounds, I'm going to rerecord everything in hopes I can replace many of the old ones. While some people, not naming any names (LEGEND >:() complained of the variable volume levels, normalization of the files also increased the volume of hums, popping, etc so I'm not going to normalize the rerecordings.
Also, I've placed a banner ad for The Phone Show on This Is a Recording. Hopefully the added listeners will be my minions... er help in pressuring you to do aftershows. ;D

Oh yeah? Well, I just posted banners back to your site from TPS. Take THAT, Jenn.

do you have the recording for the error message you hear when you connect a phone and go off hook from a dry loop DSL line? if not i will have to figure out how to record that next time i have to troubleshoot a dryloop line..
also, i wonder why they did not make a error stating something like it was a dryloop and that the line could not make calls, instead of sending it to some message like "the number you dialed... " damn i forgot exactly what it says now... curious if perhaps those recordings/errors are the same in all of verizon territory...

I remember reading a message in alt.shenanigans years back about a guy who put this recording on his answering machine. He lived in Chicago at the time. He freaked a lot of people.
I think it would be hilarious if someone did now. People calling your house will be watching every news channel to find some breaking news about an earthquake that never happened.
