I really hate the drunk people riding the LIRR during the late nights. Although it helps if you're drunk as well.

You are, in fact, stupid for trying to use your knowledge to impress others. You're doing something highly illegal in a public place in front of other people and then talking about it in a forum, so don't tell me you're not trying to impress. Your arrogance is disgusting. And you ARE stupid for doing it in the first place, since you're giving everyone that doesn't like you a chance to be a witness to one of your crimes. Way to go.

My pet peeve is America's "bigger and better" philosophy that nothing can ever be adequete (sp??). We don't need giant Hummers, 60 gig iPods, or PCs that can also operate as small business servers/webservers. We live in excess and constantly justify it without thinking of consequences or the problems with living in hedenism for constant self-fulfillment.

Matt: while I might agree with you on most points, I take offense to your saying we don't need 60 gig iPods. Maybe your music collection isn't as large as mine, I don't know.

But when you've got 13,000 + songs, a 60 gig iPod is nice.

Not to mention that a 60 gig Ipod SAVES on excess by eliminating the need to buy hundreds of CDs.  I agree with Matt's rant too, I just think the 60 gig Ipod was a bad example.

Saying "r PCs that can also operate as small business servers/webservers." is also a horrible example. You can use a 486 to run a webserver. Please don't criticize things needlessly to make yourself look cool.

I was going to say something along the lines of "you don't NEED something that large, blah blah blah" but I realized it was in bad taste. Sorry. Bad examples.

The webserver thing was a bad example, but the PC one does kind of bug me. At my last job, I had people coming in to customize $3000-4000 dollar computers with dual core processors and huge graphic card upgrades who were using their computer simply for day-to-day home computing. Spending that much money for a machine you'll never really use is pretty pointless. I do my music rendering/processing on a 1.3 ghz p3 with less than a gig of ram and an onboard sound card. This is more than most people really need, since the average computer user doesn't do much more than word processing and checking their email accounts. Consider this a clarification of my previous post.

And, I-baLL, the topic is your pet peeves, so if conspicuous consumption is my pet peeve, so be it. Sorry I miscalculated on an example, but you can fuck right off if you think I feel that way to try to be cool.

My pet peeve is people who go off topic and wag each-other's dicks in "you're not cool" contests.

Welcome.

I dont really have any enemies..I wasnt trying to impress them, they heard that I did it and wanted to know how so I shared some knowledge, and I dont do it around people who hate me, and if I do they have no clue what I'm doing. When I say "idiots" I mean some (most) of the people I hang out with.... they dont understand how its done, there version of a prank phone call is calling an operator laughing for 20 seconds then yelling psyche and hanging up which is purely and utterly pathetic. When I'm trying to do calls I mostly try to be alone considering it is illegal and people could rat me out. When I impersonate a technician they think its stupid because they think its easy (it kinda is) but O highly doubrt any of hem could do it considering they start laughng histerically when they ask the op for a number like XXX-XXX-133

I'm not kidding you, they really do start laughing

... well thats my rant or w/e you wanna call it....

Heard from you?

I'm sure your friends are glad you feel they're idiots. Not everyone is good at manipulating others. Not everyone is good at keeping a straight face. They're still better at other things than you, and if being bad at what you're good at makes them an idiot, then you would be just as much of an idiot to them. 1 - 1 = 0.

So, a pet peeve of mine is people who think everyone else is an idiot, and especially those who parade around that opinion.

I just thought of another pet peeve, and I hate myself for falling into this catagory:

People who knowingly spend money that they don't have and don't have a realistic chance at recouping from anytime soon. There are kids my age in college that already have (in addition to student loans) a few thousand dollars in credit card debt. This is not right. If somone isn't working at least 25-30 hours a week to be able to pay bills they rack up, they shouldn't have a credit card. Hell, any full-time student probably shouldn't have a credit card.

I kinda hate the term "pet peeve."  It makes something that pisses you off sound like something cute and cuddley.

Yes! You hit that perfectly! Ha-ha.. hell yeah.

Also, I hate people who are smart enough to make the right decisions but continue to do really stupid things that push their success in life back.

You get a credit card to build credit.  Stupid noob.

Failing to pay credit card bills does not build credit. Stupid noob.

My plan: get a bunch of credit cards. Pay ontime, be a good customer. Then one day, decide to not pay off all my debit.

my pet peeve is buying a DVD-RW drive on ebay, having it come with the wrong software, having you install it, get frustrated when it doenst work, search a halfhour for drivers, and then realizing you had it set to MASTER instead of SLAVE
...son of a bitch...

If the purpose of getting a credit card is to purchase things and build credit, then it surely cannot be the inverse, which is not paying the bill and sabotaging your credit.

Self-proclaimed king of WI. Bow, you swine

People who declare themselves teh king of Wisconsin. What would Doyle have to say about that?

Just kidding. I'll remember to bow in your general direction when I'm working in Grantsburg tomorrow ;D

But really, I'd have to say one of my biggest peeves is people using spreadsheets as databases. Or people who call any word processor Word, any spreadsheet Excel, any slideshow of any sort a PowerPoint, can't keep Outlook and Outlook Express straight, and say Photoshop when they mean Print Shop. Or the ones that think that Apple is called Mac. DUH! Mac is the product, Apple is the company. "Windows XP" isn't a type of computer, either.

That and the n00bs who call every Adobe product just "Adobe", as in "Do you have the install media for Adobe?" Adobe what??? That was fine for Quark, whose only product is QuarkXPress, but I mean, come the fark on!
