Title: Media Packs and Torrents
Post by: kenning on September 15, 2011, 11:07:32 AM
I've managed to acquire a server that I am willing to dedicate to torrenting PLA media.  If anyone has the old torrents on their box and can spare the bandwidth for a short time, load it up so I can spread the files from here on out.

Thanks in advance,
kenning

Just for you, I created a new torrent for the 2011 media pack.  Here's the URL:

http://www.phonelosers.org/stuff/pla_media_pack_2011.torrent

Every time I create a torrent, I end up screwing something up on it, so let me know if there are any problems with it.

Also, I'm still seeding a prank calls torrent I put up last year.

I don't know how to put a directory listing in the torrent.  When I created it, using uTorrent, I wasn't given an option for that.  And when I look at the torrent in uTorrent now, I don't see an option for adding a description.

And I don't have anything to do a PLA radio about!

i attached the directory listings for the 2 torrents for those that have lame torrent client settings..
--
i might recommend to those that want to see the file contents to a torrent before downloading to put their torrent client settings BACK to defaults where the client PROMPTS you with a window showing the torrents contents with a confirmation dialogue prior to download, instead of auto-starting the torrent you click on in your browser without reviewing first..
--
didn't think i had much term fu skills, but apparantly more than others..

if you happen to be working from a linux terminal, install 'tree', type 'tree', enjoy the 'tree'.  if you want to share your file tree with others 'tree | yourfiles.txt' should probably do it.

if you're in windows, maybe something like "dir *.* /s | yourfiles.txt" might produce something similar (i don't feel like pulling up a wine term to confirm for you).

It would actually be "tree > yourfiles.txt". You can do the same in Windows, although the Windows tree command doesn't automatically use the current directory so you have to do "tree c:\path > yourfiles.txt".

yeah, i haven't been using the terminal as much the past few weeks.  i kept using > and i wasn't seeing any results, so i used the pipe and did.  just tried the > now and its working.  ;/

w00p.

rbcp - it occurs to me that if you were to post the directory/file contents on your torrent posting (i see you gotta page as well as the forum post), the contents would be indexed and more folks may come across it in google searches due to its massive content..

you'd get more site hits, as well as there would be more peers/future seeders.

I broke my version of the torrent because I modified some files, so I can't seed anymore.  I suck.

We should get these torrents up on The Pirate Bay if they're not already there.

If you still need seeders, I will be seeding again in about a week.

Today I created a brand new PLA Media Pack.  It's 100% current right now, but I'm sure I'll start messing that up next week when I throw new files into it.  It's got all the Phone Shows, podcasts, songs, videos, etc.  I reorganized all of the directories so it's easier to find stuff now.

Here's the announcement about it on phonelosers.org
http://www.phonelosers.org/2012/07/brand-new-2012-pla-media-pack-released/ (http://www.phonelosers.org/2012/07/brand-new-2012-pla-media-pack-released/)

Here's the torrent page that has links to it, along with links to other prank call torrents:
http://www.phonelosers.org/torrent/ (http://www.phonelosers.org/torrent/)

Here's a direct link to the new 2012 torrent if you want to skip all that nonsense:
http://www.phonelosers.org/media/torrents/pla_media_pack_2012.torrent (http://www.phonelosers.org/media/torrents/pla_media_pack_2012.torrent)

Let me know if I've screwed anything up with the torrent.  It seems to be working okay and there are 3 people downloading from me right now.  I forgot to include a directory listing in the description like you guys suggested last year.  I suck.  If anyone wants to list this on any torrent sites, that would be SUPER.

I'll be seeding at all weekend and I'll try to keep it seeded as much as possible over the next 12 months.

For people experiencing slow downloading you can add torrent trackers.

Here's a list found here. (http://pastebin.com/mkgkE2E9) It's long be sure to put a space between each tracker.

You should upload PLA media to the Internet Archive (http://archive.org/). They will host it for free, as long as you aren't violating copyright.

There's a bit of copyright violations in there.  Like all the background music in PLA Radio.

What about uploading it to a skydrive account and pass out the links? I'll have to look thru the terms but I think that would work and we could all leech Microsoft's bandwidth. I pay for my hotmail account so I have like a 20gig skydrive. I don't torrent but if you'll link me to the files Brad I'll put em up.
