There are two payphones at second and Columbia in Seattle that ring. Their numbers are:
(206) 464-9635
(206) 223-9896

There is a payphone somewhere in the city of Bothell, WA (a suburb of Seattle) that rings:
(425) 483-9965

I'd like to start a map of these things. Wanna help (http://j.mp/rMeOiq)?

Yes, yes I would.

I am currently in the process of writing an article about payphones that ring. It would be nice to start a map that shows where they still exist. Although I must explain that my fascination on ringing payphone isn't all prank based. I also want to explain in my article how it still could be used more of a way to live off-grid.

But I'm interested in the map idea

Wouldn't a free Google Voice number work as an off-grid alternative?

I imagine he means off the grid as in living like that crazy mercenary who lives in the sewers and eats filet of bum every night. Makes a decent living doing wet work; mostly just steals copper and trades it in, however.

But really. Thinking he just means to have no ties back to you at all that are easily traceable. At least it's what I assume.

well okay,

off grid living  wouldn't be the best option unless I was the "Sewer King" but still writing an article about it...

You become a cannibal. It gives +2 to Stamina and chemical resistance, but you gain a negative attribute in speech any time you decide to talk to someone of your own kind.

For a paranoid person, it seems like throwaway Google Voice accounts would be much safer than a pay phone.   A pay phone can be watched and monitored by THE MAN.  They could be there waiting for you when you go to pick up your call.  A Google Voice account can be set up and used from a public library or anywhere in the city with open wifi.  They're so easy to set up that you could use a new one every day if you really wanted to.  It's just as free as a pay phone and you don't get AIDS when you use it.

I hate when you get aids from a pay phone...

Every time I've setup a google account, they require you to verify the account by a text or call to an actual phone first.. if you have a spare phone that isn't in your name, i guess that would work, but then what would be the point if you already have an anonymous phone?

Or is there a way around this?

I know you can just give them whatever number to get the verification code, like a phone at some public place or something.. but would be a big PIA to do that for multiple accounts

just get a free DID from somewhere like ipkall.com or something if you need a number to verify something online..
