Hello everyone,
just thought you ought to know that skype outgoing calls are free until 2007. This service provides a very easy way to record phone calls or play music right into the line! Just set your recording to stereo mix. Whatever your computer plays or hears is what you record! ANYWHERE IN THE US AND CANADA!

I've been trying to make calls with it all morning, but it says that I need to buy SkypeOut credits. It even takes me to a page to order $10 worth of SkypeOut credit. They should have at least made it work since they're making the big announcement about it today. I'll dump my Vonage service for them if the call quality is good enough.

First of all, I am new...so Hi.
Second, I was wondering about the tracing matter. It would be GREAT if I can't be traced at all. I will be moving around with my laptop using WIFI with my headset. Good times.

Ah yes, I am currently on the voice bridge with skype listening as I find it hilarious and do not feel like un-muting my mic possibly letting out allot of echo.
I have found that if you make a conference call in skype connecting your home number and the number you want to call and have your computer act as the hub between the two you can get close to the quality of a phone and still get free calls to anywhere in the us and Canada :)
(But I’m sure most of you all figured that out far before me)
*One last note* On the bridge are all this people acting dumb or can they really not hear who’s voice that is?

I wonder if free Skype is going to make the voicebridge suck. It's now easy for anyone to call in and blast mp3 files to the bridge 24/7.

It will make it easier to add people into it without them knowing the number. If you start a Skype conference, you can start it off with just the voice bridge number, then just add random people into the conference.

I sure hope it doesn’t ruin the bridge. I mean I am new to the bridge due to skype, it gives me this opportunity to talk to you guys which beforehand for me couldn’t happen. But at the same time it will only take a few assholes with skype to ruin the reputation of all skypers.

I rebooted and tried again, it works now.
Make sure you have the latest version of Skype, which dials and connect despite the "you need Skype Credit" message.
Phone number showed up as 0000123456, and same number shows up to various people I called. Number is untraceable to what I understand so far.

If your going on the bridge, just put on headphones to reduce the echo. I've been on the bridge all night and we are all using skype. Only problem is when u want to call a phone as a confrence

I hot-keyed mute so I unmute talk then remute :) works well for me
However people not doing this are creating lots of echo and loud anoying noises casuing people to leave the extention!

So what are some of the things you have done with you skype?

it would be really hard to trace skype for the following reasons:
1- The person that you call will probly have no idea you are on skype
2- Most people are too scared of calling the "police"/phone company (as if the police are going to care)
3- Even if you continue to call back continuously, the number in thier CID will be some random shit like 510-123-456 that dos'nt even exist.
4- The phone company might be able to find out that the number is being used by a large corporation that they cant find the phone number to.
5- If they are really detirmined, they will find it to be skype
6- They call skype and complain
7-skype dose'nt give a care because they work for profit
8-The phone company gives up and tells the old lady to block the number (Witch dosent do anything because it changes almost every call
8 (other way) Phone company sues skype and they end up going through thousands of call records to find an IP adress
9- they need to find out who the IP adress belongs to from your ISP
10-Comcast wont give it either (because its a compeditors phone company)
11- they sue comcast
12- They get the IP adress traced to the house down your street that you were leeching Wifi off.
13- That house gets a $2500 fine or some shit like that
So ya' see people- Skype is the Ultimate prank program because its un-likely anyone will go past step 3-4 (You problably should not threaten to kill the president though...)

Okay now I know I have always said VoIP sucks, but I am now taking that back. I just downloaded Skype and I was amazed that I actually got what was advertised. FREE PHONE CALLS! It is amazing. It is free, anounoumous (sp?), and easy to use. I first thought I would have to call and get some tech. guy to come out and install all this equipment, but it is free. I love it.

The trick to avoiding echo with Skype is simply to use headphones. I use Skype quite a lot to talk VOIP with friends.
I haven't used it to make phone calls though.
How do you make free calls with it? It always asks me for money.

i dont know why you're paying monthly as it is, skype is about a million times cheaper, for long dist and local.
ive done the math, and its way awesomer. plus, you can get numbers in other countries, and then your comrades in tokyo can call that number locally, and get you! all for the same price. generally, $30/year for the number, and then its pay as you go. but the rates are intense.
