Title: PLA Stickers
Post by: rbcp on February 23, 2007, 07:38:28 PM
We've been out of PLA stickers for awhile now.  We need new ones.  So I'm talking to a guy to get some prices on vinyl stickers.  Here's what they may or may not look like:

(http://www.phonelosers.org/stuff/sticker01_small.jpg)(http://www.phonelosers.org/stuff/sticker02_small.jpg)(http://www.phonelosers.org/stuff/sticker03_small.jpg)

The 2nd one is just like the old PLA sticker (http://www.phonelosers.org/store/stickers/) that I used to sell.  I doubt I'll end up making the 3rd one because 3 color vinyl stickers are probably too expensive.

Anyone have any other ideas/requests for stickers?

I think you should make some stickers based on the kilroy was here thing. Make it say PLA was here. Then edit in something PLA related where the guy's face would be. That way when we don't put these in our schools, phone booths, urinals, etc. people will know who put them there.

The first sticker should be the most cost efficient since no colors are used so id go with that one.

But hey, why not make homegrown like the one shown below.

Nice!  What's it say?

I could easily make stickers on my ink jet printer, but the quality of those doesn't compare to vinyl.

Those are all round stickers.  I just didn't bother removing the background to them.  The first sticker will definitely be made, and most likely the 2nd one too.

I'll certainly take some of those. My minions friends and I go crazy with stickers...we've covered places with V2 stickers (freestickers.org), SubGenius stickers, and even shitty ones I made with a sharpie and some labels I stole from work and drew cactuses and weird things on. Stickers rule, and PLA can only improve on a good thing.

Just a thought here, how much would transparent stickers cost? I know the vinyl ones are a good idea ,
but for glass and stuff it would look cool.  ;D

RTF still has a small cache of the original round PLA bell stickers. I stole one from him last month and put it on my then PLA-sticker-less laptop. Quick, everyone private message RTF and ask him to sell you PLA stickerz!!!@2

Maybe we Arbie could put a link to all items for sale on the bar at the top of the screen. That would simplify things a bit.

The stickers I made were from address labels. I just put the logo in and the website nothing to fancy.

I think a new batch of the old style bright green ones would be nice.  Not to mention, some new PLA stickers to play with.

I like the idea of tagging pay phones. My greatest feat yet was putting one on a phone outside a verizon office, you know, the ones for calling a dept. within that building. It was gone after a couple days, but other PLA stickers I have placed are still there!  :)

What is the worst crime you could be committing my putting one of those stickers on a handset anyway,
Or what is the worst thing that can happen to you? ( Along with the likely things that will happen to you)

Taxi and tow companies put their stickers on pay phones all the time.  So I doubt much can happen to you.  Otherwise, the cops wouldn't have too hard of a time finding the taxi and tow places to arrest them.

I ordered more stickers last night.  Guess I'll have them in a couple weeks.  I didn't go with the vinyl, but instead ordered from iprint.com, which is the same place I got the original round yellow stickers from.  They're good quality stickers and suitable for laptops and outdoors.  The new stickers will look something like this:

Only orange instead of yellow.  The only color they had, aside from white, gold and silver was orange.  We'll have to wait and see if that looks horrible or not.

So if I did a rectangular sticker, similar to the old green one, what should it say?  How about one specifically for pay phones?  Any ideas?

How about getting Phone losers tape printed, then you could just wrap the whole pay phone in that. ;D ( I did this once with Packing tape from a local skateshop )

I almost want a sticker that say something to the extent of "This phone is owned by the PLA Phone Corp. , for support please contact www.phonelosers.org"

But it doesn't have the hilarity for non PLAers.

It could always be turned into a pun though:

"This phone (is / has been / was / [omit word]) (owned / own3d / pwned) by the PLA, for support please contact www.phonelosers.org"

Didn't the old green one say "The PLA used this phone to harass someone, and they didn't pay for it either!"  Then it had http://www.phonelosers.org (http://www.phonelosers.org) on it?

I stole a pile of labels from work and wrote many weird things on them with a sharpie. I later went and stuck them all over a local theatre, and one of them was PLA related. I harassed a friend of mine who works the concession to give me one of those 'special water cups' that taste like coke, but she wouldn't go for it, so I waited for her to turn away and I stuck a label reading 'The PLA pwnt your mom last night' on the til. It was there for several nights after that, and so was one I put on a payphone reading 'OMG HAX'.

UPDATE: that story is really lame...don't bother reading it. What WOULD be cool however would be if the image on the media DVD that says 'The PLA used this payphone to annoy the hell out of somebody' became a sticker.

They're 3".  If they're anything like the old yellow stickers, there shouldn't be a problem with fading.  These are really durable, shiny stickers.  I got an email today that they've been shipped so I should have them in a day or two.

Now I gotta design a sticker or something so I can get one. It sucks being poor.

The stickers arrived today.  Here are some pics:

(http://www.phonelosers.org/photos/albums/userpics/10001/normal_orange_stickers01.jpg) (http://www.phonelosers.org/photos/albums/userpics/10001/normal_orange_stickers02.jpg)

The 3" diameter covers a pretty large portion of my laptop screen, but if you position it carefully enough you don't lose too much useful screen space.  I didn't realize how day-glo orange these stickers would be.  They're really bright.  On the page I ordered them from, they were a very dark orange.

Price: 2 stickers for $1.00 total.  That's the no profit for me just for forum users price.  Send your dollar to rbcp@phonelosers.org.  When I put them up in the store, it'll probably end up being more like 10 stickers for $3.00 plus shipping.  Or something like that.  Also, if you order anything else from the PLA store, I'll be throwing in a free sticker or two.

I'd like to order a few other misc. sticker designs so I can throw them all together in some kind of sticker package.  So if anyone has some sticker ideas, post them here.

Now that I'm no longer in debt, I'd be willing to print up a set of stickers similar to the old green payphone stickers, and sell them to PLA members.  If I get some support behind this, I'll order a roll, and make them available.  RBCP, I hope you don't mind forum members making their own PLA stuff, and making a couple of Presidents on the side.

Damn, that sucks.  I thought they were more waterproof than that.  I'll stick one somewhere outside tonight, just to see how well they do in the rain.  Maybe I need to splurge for some vinyl stickers after all.

After 2 days in the rain, my PLA stickers are holding up fairly well outdoors.  This picture was taken right after I stuck them on a trash can.  Since water kind of settles in that place, they're both wrinkling a bit.  But they aren't fading or smearing yet.

Vinyl is going to be the only type of sticker that will hold up in rainy weather for an extended period of time, not to say you won't get a decent lifespan out of the other kind... vinyl just seems to last forever though.

I'm ordering vinyl stickers today!  They're going to be round, around 3 inches and in color.  And a black/white version too. They're going to be just like those shitty orange stickers (I got rid of all of those at Hope/Defcon) except they'll be black and vinyl.  Isn't this exciting??  Once I get them you all get one for free.

Well, it's only taken me a year and a half but I finally got the vinyl stickers today.  Here's an image of one stuck on my laptop:

(http://www.phonelosers.org/images/store_stickers/2008_vinyl_sticker_color01_small.jpg) (http://www.phonelosers.org/images/store_stickers/2008_vinyl_sticker_color01.jpg)(http://www.phonelosers.org/images/store_stickers/2008_vinyl_sticker_color02.jpg)

It's kind of big at 3 1/4" but it's shiny, colorful and vinyl.  As promised, you all get one for free.  So PM me (http://www.phonelosers.org/forums/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=1) with your address and I'll mail one out this week.  This free sticker offer is good for one month.  (I'm just throwing that disclaimer in there so some newb doesn't PM me in 2 years asking for a sticker.)

I'll probably do a 2" vinyl after these run out.

Oh, I also got the same sticker, but only in black and white.  So if for some reason you'd prefer no color (you racist), let me know and I'll give you that one instead.
