Title: New PLA Shirts
Post by: rbcp on December 13, 2010, 01:05:45 PM
I don't have nearly enough shirts in my closet, so the logical thing to do is spend a few hundred bucks on some crazy new t-shirt design.  What should it be?

Besides answering the poll, I'm completely open to ideas for exactly what to put on a new shirt or artwork for it.

I don't know, but it should have the Telecom-munist wrench and buttset on one sleeve, UPL logo on the other, and WeakNet labs across the back of the collar.

I'd love a Cacti Radio and/or Phone Show shirt.  Radio stations and shows are always get cooler when they have t-shirts.

Cacti Radio or bust!  :nonsense:

I use to have a shirt that had a radio shack tone dialer on it that I still think is pretty cool. Only problem with it was people kept asking me why I had a remote control on my shirt. I eventually gave up on explaining to them what it was and just told them I like remote controls

I have a shitload of money that I'm just itching to blow on a new shirt.  We really need to come up with something soon so I can go place an order.  A couple years ago, I tried to come up with a design for PLA Radio and this is as far as I got:

The "stuff you wanna hear" was just a placeholder until I thought of something better, like "NEWS, SPORTS, WEATHER AND PRANK CALLS!"  Maybe we could do something similar for Cacti Radio since that's my new obsession.

Laugh Track Matt and a few other people have said they'd really like to see the old Harley shirt come back.  I kind of agree with that, but I think the back of the shirt would need to be updated since Hope 2004 isn't that big of a deal anymore.  Or maybe I could just do the front of the shirt and leave the back side blank, which would allow me to sell the shirts a little cheaper.

Some kind of coat of arms shirt would be cool, if anyone can make a clever enough coat of arms for PLA.

So scour the interweb for t-shirts and paste any shirts or logos here that you think we could rip off.  Maybe we could copy some radio station's t-shirt for a Cacti Radio shirt.  I bet we could find some good ones on eBay.  Post design or slogan ideas here.  Some kind of themed or dated shirt would be cool.  PLA Spring Break '11!  Okay, that's dumb, but you know.  Help me spend all these hundreds of dollars before I go and do something responsible like pay bills with it!

The first 10 people to reply with "Oh you can just give that money to me l o l!" gets their accounts deleted.

I really would like a re-print of the PLA Harley t-shirt now that mine got destroyed with bleach.

you can change the extension to psd for the psd. It requires the font Lhabia (free online).

I would say put phonelosers.org and a catch phrase on the back. :)

I need you to explain it.

Also, since the thread is headed that direction, is anyone unaware that I speak German? If so, let me know so I can tell you. It's pretty impressive.

I actually like listening to people talk in their native tongues. Or just other languages they've picked up. Hearing English your entire life makes it lose its shine. So there are times when I'm waiting in a line and people start talking in German, Russian, or Portuguese, I'll listen in just because it's tones I don't hear a million times a day. For all I know they could be calling me an asshole. But it sounds good and I don't mind.

Also, if you stand outside my Home Depot on a Saturday morning, you can hear all the EspaƱol you want  :nonsense:

As long as we're drudging up old posts for no good reason, what do you guys think of this shirt?  It's just a quick photoshop, to get your opinions, so ignore how everything is misaligned.

Even though it's 4 colors, I think I could still offer it for $20, including shipping.  Another option would be to make the front logo plain white, but I think colored would look cooler.

Yeah, I know, screw Laugh Track, why should he get his name in there and nobody else.  I was just playing around with ideas and probably won't keep it even though it's a cool name.  I'd really like to add a few things to the list, though.  Inside jokes having to do with PLA would be preferred.  Am I missing any major events?  There's the Black Friday at Wal-Mart thing, but how do I make that make sense as a title, or in the summer.  And are there any lines in there that you completely hate?

And how big should that PLA bell on the front be?  CD-sized?  Pringle can lid sized?  Car tire sized?

Looks good to me.. I think b&w or color would both be cool- the b&w logo on the back looks good

Size-wise maybe a bit larger on the logo, but its hard to say without seeing it being worn. Its easy to make logos way too large on shirts as well though

Yeah, make that logo larger. I will actually spend money on this; as opposed to all the other free shit Brad gives me.

Yeah, just like you promised to buy a H*rley shirt, jerk!

And really, larger?  I thought it was too big.  I didn't think hackers liked colors, so I was going to go smaller on it.

If I were to go just one color on the front logo, what would be a good color?  How about grey?  It would be more subtle than the bright white I use for everything.

Colors are alright on the logo, as long as the t-shirt is black.

The dates will be real and in order when I finish.  I was just putting in random stuff to see how the formatting looked.

I think to play it safe, I'm going to stick to 1 color on the front logo for now.  If people end up really liking this shirt, maybe I'll do a 3 color logo later this year or next.  I talked to my t-shirt guy and to do 4 screens on a shirt, I think I have to order a minimum of 48 shirts and there's a fee of $20 per screen.  After this Harl3y incident, I just don't have $500 to put up for another batch of shirts that will probably take all year to sell.

So I'm having this shirt made.  The above is just a photoshop, but that's the actual image from the final design.  The t-shirt place says it'll be ready in about 3 weeks.  Here's a link (http://www.phonelosers.org/2012/04/2012-pla-tour-shirts-available/) to buy it from, where you can see the dates more clearly.

The thing on the bottom of the post about $10 for a secret shirt - that's the shirt that I was forced to remove a few months ago.  So if you want to help me get rid of those, then this is a good way to do it.  Thanks!
