Help taking over McD's
« on: January 07, 2007, 05:09:12 PM »
OK, first post here, I've been screwing with the folks at the local McD Drive-thru for about a year now. Of course I give full credit to RBCP for all the ideas. anyway, the only time I Can transmit to the Drive-up customer is to talk over the McWorker. I want to be able to really screw with them but am limited to only talking over the worker.

I've tried all the PL tones and it seems there isn't one. Does anyone have any info on how their radios work? I've tried to steal a headset for this but opted not to becasue that would have required me to go behind the counter and didn't have a clear opportunity.

a little more info:

I hear the customers on 469.0125 MHz and the Order Taker on 464.0125MHz. I transmit on the order taker's frequency while the are talking. I transmit at 50 Watts so I talk right over them.

Any info would be helpful

Thanks
CM

So you are trying to talk when the order-taker is not talking? A good way to get to find the PL tone is to turn the receiver PL squelch on and try setting your radio to each tone one by one until you find one that works. If none of the PL tones work, try DCS if your radio supports it. I have never heard of DCS used in drive-thrus, but it is worth trying.

Since you are running 50 watts, I am assuming you are using a modified mobile ham radio. What type is it?

When I key the radio while the teller is NOT talking, I can't be heard at the drive up window. I've verified this with a friend.

I have tried your suggestion with every PL tone and DCS but have not verified them all. I really doubt they would use DCS either, seems highly unlikely.

One thing I've considered is pulling into the drive thru after hours with hopes that they leave the drive thru radio turned on. I would be able to tell as soon as I pulled up, when you pull up to the ordering area, a sensor(?) detects the presence of the car and goes active. I would then be able to try all PL tones while sitting there.

I have a Yaesu FT-8900R.

OK, I've just come home from trying every PL Tone. No luck. Does onyone know if there are fast food joints that actually use DCS? Seems kind of wierd to me. I suppose I'll have to just continue with the way I've been going, it still works, so i'l just have to deal with it and still have fun! Next on my agenda is the Dunkin Donuts!

Later!
