Internet browsers
« on: February 04, 2007, 07:38:09 AM »
I just wondering what browsers people use. I use Opera and I personally think it is the best browser. But I wasn't always like that. I used to use Firefox like many people now do, I thought it was superior to everything. I was unwilling to try anything else. So I downloaded Opera to see how shitty it was and was surprised. I know it sounds cheesy, but you should try it.

I use Swiftfox, which is supposedly an optimized Firefox build for Linux.  When I first installed the flash plug-in it crashed all the time, but now it seems to be working great.

I really like Opera as well, it is a really nice browser, I just haven't been able to bring myself to switch over.

Woh! I never realized there was another browser thread! Or I forgot. I have a bad memory. Shit I'm confused.
I need to find a new direction for this thread.

The last post in that thread was over 3 months ago!  My own mediocre attempt at humor has been highly amusing to myself.

I've been using Firefox for over a year now.  I really like it and don't have too many problems with it.  I would like to be an Opera user, but it seems like there's eventually always something important that Opera can't do which makes me quit using it.  I see there's a new version of it out, though, so maybe I'll give it another try.

In keeping up with tradition on this subject, here's the browser stats from phonelosers.org...

Some nice features are:
If you accidently quit Opera or your computer crashes your tabs from before willm still be there.
You can have several tabs come up everytime you log on.
Different Skins
Many different toolbars preinstalled you can use and you can place bookmarks on toolbars
Imports bookmarks from Mozilla
Widgets
Browser can get emails
One bad thing is that it needs to be more accesible. What I mean is that sometimes it does thing rather ass-backwards. For instance you can't delete bookmarks by simply right clicking them and then hiting delete. Oh no, you have to go to manage bookmarks to delete them or to make new folders or rearrange them. That sucks, but it's forgetable.

I can do the same exact thing with Firefox, why would I want to change?

I still use firefox from time to time and it doesn't keep tabs from use to use like Opera.

I wonder why so many people are still using IE... 40 % !? I use a blackberry to view PLA occasionally but I guess that would show up with the thousands of people in the "unknown" category.

I think a lot of the unknowns are search engine spiders.  And probably the spamming robots that comb the site 24/7 trying to submit their porn links all over the place.

IE has been #1 since the late 90's when they integrated it into the Windows OS and then Netscape turned itself into complete shit.

It does by default when it crashes, and there are a few extensions if you actually want that feature, but I never really had a use for it. It seems now like Opera is now at the level of Firefox since it started being free...is it closed source still?

I'm not sure. I know you can make widgets and skins for it, but thats about it I think.
The freeness was a good idea although. Why would anyone pay for a browser?
