Heya's I found this to be entertaining...
« on: November 26, 2006, 08:51:14 AM »
I was able to whistle off an error message i found up in AK, (907-295-9997) and heard 2 kercheeps and then a bunch of clicking.   I was unable to call my phone though via        KP <MF|DTMF> ST       Then i found googleing that that exchange uses some kind of radio frequing called SF'ing.  (single frequency) so in Soundforge i made a pulse out of my phone number with 2600 chirps, and to no avail, couldnt call my phone.  This was really fun though :) :)  and maybe my concept of SF'ing is wrong??? I always thought SF meant, what pulse dialing did back in the day, just like switch hook dialing.  who knows, but try it it's fun to blow off the error message :) Also i found NPA NXX 8888 to be a cool automated voice test set up there.   Anyone find any other cool numbers please reply this is a lot of fun for me :)  (Also, i think the population of the 295 exchange is like 30 people.)

Pulse dialing works by the telco detecing changes in line load, it's not SF signalling. The 2600hz supervisory signal, for example, is SF, because a sound (with one frequency, at that) is used to signal.

Supervisory signalling is still done in SF, but now it's out-of-band, so you can't do it except in really old exchanges. Devilz1097256 and I tried resetting this baby before but couldn't get it to work, so I really doubt that it still runs crossbar cogs and whistles. Keep searching.

oh it's easy, even if you dont have a bluebox or a 2600 box like this:

you can simply box the tones through your computer with Skype and Soundforge.  I know this isnt all that phreaking 31337ness, but pjear.  Soon, sadly, this too will not be possible.  At least i got the chance to do it b4 it's gone.

oh, and switch hook dialing (rotay) and SF are the same i read, you just need a sequence of 2600 winks 1 for 1, 2 for 2, /etc.

have phun and phreak forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111111111

hey someone came into #Lunatics and asked for me, listen your best bet is email me urbanphreak@gmail.com

okay on with this post!!
in pittsburgh, PA a few years ago there was only really just 412 as the NPA.  well, you used to be able to call your next door neighbor without using the area code.  That was cool, but we ran out of numbers :(  Then, came a new area code! 724!! 724 makes up the outskirts (the sticks) areas around pittsburgh.  now even if you are calling your neighbor you need the NPA.  NPA NXX XXXX.  So, VeriZon thought they were special, pittburgh had cool recorded messages for a while saying "hey start using the area codes now you idiot!" and that was that.  Redboxing never died though... evryone says you cant but you can in PGH.  you cant if you are calling a 412 number from within a 412 number. but if you call a 724 from within a 412 you can.  you can also redbox a 412 number from inside the 724. This is what happens...
when you pick up the handset of a payphone (not a Cocot) from within 412 and dial a 412 number, you get this "The call you have made requires a Coin deposit...." from a lady who seriously sounds like she is drowning in her mucus, nasaly.  Then if you call a 724 number (without puttin in money again) it changes.  It now states "Thank you for using a Verizon payphone" in Lord Vaders voice.  Then prompts you for 90 cents. My own mediocre attempt at humor has been highly amusing to myself.. or your iPod headphones.  I have found that using this wav file i have made:

http://www.zombie.el.cx/sounds/quarters.wav

At full level with a large size headphone set like these:

you can easily box in the coins needed.  In fact most of the time i do it, The woman (recording) says "Thank you, You have, 35 cents towards overtime." My own mediocre attempt at humor has been highly amusing to myself.. well i dont think toll  fraud is cool, and that it's not what phreaking is all about, I do see it as getting a chance to experience something new with the phone system in a way that everyday ppl don't.  This will all be gone soon, and i don;t wanna regret not trying at least.  So, that's the 412-724 story ladies and gentlemen thank you for joining us for this phreaking thread about boxes and tones that should have been long gone by now.  dont miss out.  phreak and have a merry holiday. - trevlyn.

post sctripture: please if you join #Lunatics and i dont speak, it's a dettached screen session, i have been busy with these new little projects and my Wii (which rules BTW) so email me, and you are all welcome to stay in #Lunatics.  (i wasnt in #phonelosers according to a guy named LadyJoe er gayJoe er lamer something i dont know.)

Might have been better to necro the redboxing post, that's more relevant there. Let's leave this thread for Alaska's whistle-off numbers. Or flame me and do whatever you want, either is good.

ahh, cool, no i just figured they where both old forms of phreaking and added that little pittsburgh 10 year history thing.  I made my bluebox tones the proper 60ms and 100ms and now can inject them to 907-295-xxxx  I can make any mf tones if anyone needs them.  I just get a reorder though??? then i can whistle off the reorder and inject them again to get another reorder, - repeat... I dont know why i gewt the reorder it seems like there is something wrong with my "ST" tone or maybe it's a different type of switch that uses a diffent one. heres a record of me doing it:

http://www.zombie.el.cx/sounds/testing-907.wav

you'll hear me turn up the volume of the recording after i send the MF's.  This is just so you can hear the reorder.  I really think i can get this, and have become pretty good at doing it by ear.  Any suggestions lemme know. - trevlyn.

ahh, Phiber told me that (after someone on his forum warned me not to "do extensive experimenting with the LVGDAKXADS1 switch") that Skype hides your identity pretty well, and that kind of switch (well mostly all he said) dont normally confine to the 60-100 millisecond timings for MF's and such.  He said to try out differnt timings so today after work i will play with it more and let you know, As far as now, i can sieze it with even whistling with my mouth, but cant get the ST at the proper timing. -trevlyn.

Yeah, that shit up in Alaska doesn't work exactly like the PSTN did in the 70s-80s, you'll have to play around and figure out most of it yourself. BinRev has a thread about AK. Also, don't do anything annoying on that switch, it sure would suck if they shut it down.

Switch hook dialing (aka "pulse dialing") is NOT the same thing as SFing. For one thing, pulse dialing is using DC signalling to tell your own LOCAL switch what number you're dialing. SF signalling can used to dial phone numbers only on old step-by-step switches. The two are not the same thing.

Also, seizing Livengood is easy. It's doing anything else that's hard. Everybody seems to be plagued by the curse of CoolEdit and keep trying out only CCITT5 R1 MF signalling. I don't know of anybody who has tried pure vanilla CCITT5 or CCITT5 R2 MF signalling. Vanilla CCITT5 only differes from R1 in tone length I believe though KP might be different (I don't remember this off the top fo my head.) CCITT5 R2, on the other hand, uses completely different frequencies for ALL the signalling (except the seize tone.)

Oh, and BillCancer, we're not talking about the 295 area code. We're talknig about the 295 exchange in the 907 area code.

:( i hate to wake this sore thumb from the dead, but now, sadly in pittsburgh the flash hooked 411 trick no longer gives you ACTS.  no i can only get ACTS on the line if i dial outside of my npa but WITHIN my LATA.  anything outside of that gives "this call requires...." and hangs up.  now after 411 i get the number announced 2x, and then "please hang up now." instead of payment option menu which i used to navigate to ACTS.  its also 3 degrees here, and my hands hurt, and they are frozen.

shit.
