Linemans Handset

So I was just wondering how much trouble you can actually get into for having a linemans handset. I mean seriously, if you have a little extra cash you can buy one at Lowe's now. So if you were caught using one what could they do with it being obviously legal to purchase?

Um, its not illegal to have a butt set. Its only illegal if you steal it. Or use it to steal telephone service.

And I suppose if the cops caught you stealing telephone service with it, you'd probably go to jail with wire fraud/theft of service charges. You could totally post bond and skip out on it.

when I used to live in Duluth MN I traveled to the twin cities to go clubing, in the process leave my friend my Harris to use in my absence, i got one of the gut pains has i handed it to him. After i came back, i found that he was stopped by the police in an alley. They stripped him of my precious butt set. So i take him by the ear to the police department to get my shit back. They were actually pretty nice about it, after telling them that i got the handset from a telco auction. But since i had no proof of ownership, they kept it. So if anyone ever comes acrossed an orange handset that has Sinister-8 written in White-Out on the side, i got $100 bucks for you....

It's not illegal to have a lineman's handset. They sell them at the big electronics store in my town. They are expensive though; like 200 bucks. I'd rather just make a beige box.
