What's this crap I found?
« on: July 23, 2009, 04:47:47 AM »
So bubs and I were out unlocking things we weren't supposed to unlock the other night, and at our friendly neighborhood "crossbox" we found this pressurized can which we opened only to find these things and these things.

Someone tell me what they are.  I want a detailed history of what the can is, why it's pressurized, and what all the junk inside is.  No fucking guessing, okay?  Sure, you might fool me, but then some other more knowledgeable asshole will come along and make you look retarded eventually.

love,
spessa

You said no guessing, but by the looks of it in the second picture it seems like it's a rack of hard drives. At least that's what it looks like to me.

I TOOK A GUESS AND YOU CAN'T STOP ME.

Also, did you lock the shit back up when you were done? Disturb any of it?

Siemens makes DSL stuff, so my GUESS is that the rack of stuff feeds DSL interwebs to people.

And this says, "To avoid moisture to alter their characteristics, power and telecommunication cables are pressurized with dry air or nitrogen. Leaks will obviously cause a pressure decrease and will make the existing protection uneffective."

Weird, I've never heard of that before.  Those telco boxes are more mysterious than I ever thought!

Could be this:  http://www.flickr.com/photos/33519035@N05/3750029262/

But I think it is a fiber optic hub for digital internet which converts fiber optic digital to an analog signal.
And as Arbie pointed out.. pressurized to keep out moisture (was).

Those Siemens boxes are T1 repeaters. You can see the part number upside down on one, 900-25186-02.
