tapping in condo/apt buildings
« on: June 30, 2006, 10:21:02 PM »
phone losers page  reads that telephone tapping can be done through the TNI box which is located
on the outside of the building.   but,  what i wonder is if it can be done on the inside of the building,
the other side of the TNI box where the wires come in and then run to each home unit.  at this point,
can't someone do the same thing or something that would achieve the desired results?

Bust a hole in your wall and find your neighbor's phone jack, attach your beige box.

Just break into their apartment and run a long phone cord in to their closet, build a little fort out of the shirts and stuff for extra covert. When they use the phone, just pick up yours (use a beige phone, they are better for this) and listen like crazy. When you find the information you need, casually walk out of the closet and murmur audibly about getting lost on 5th Avenue.

Yeah, your idea is really impractical. As z09 said, you'd actually have to rip walls apart to do it. Besides the fact that ripping walls apart is very hard to do in secret (without an army of starving termites at your disposal), how do you plan to find which line goes to your mark's apartment? It would actually be easier to build them a new apartment, and tap the line before you put up the gyprock.

Just box the TNI. Sheesh.

There might be/should be a phone room door accesible from the outside. The room will usually contains a bigass TNI, power meters, intercom shit, and in some cases the cheapass owner will put HVAC stuff or water heaters in there, making it inhumanely hot. The door probably will have a small sticker on it with the teleco logo and saying something about how access to the room is neccesarry to maintain telephone service. From my experience 1/2 of these are unlocked, and the other half have shitty locks that can be picked in a couple minutes. You could also print a real looking notice with teleco logos on it saying that the door has to be unlocked beetween X/X/X and X/X/X for a service upgrade or something and tape it to the door. Leave blank spaces for the dates and fill them out with a sharpie.
