Vishing Scam Attempt
« on: December 19, 2007, 03:48:24 PM »
So earlier today my dad was telling me about an email received, telling him to call a number and verify his credit card info. Sure enough, when he called them, he got a recording asking him to type in his credit card, PIN number, and everything else. My idea was to write a script which would use a free VoIP proram (icall) to repeatedly dial the number wait a while, and then hang up. I was thinking that this would keep the lines busy so that no one else would get scammed. However I'm not sure if this will work since the number is a 1800 number, do you guys know whether or not it will? Also do you have any other ideas to contribute?

If you're intent on messing with the scammer then make a script that'll input fake credit card numbers and PINs. Use one of those cheesy old school credit card number generators for an endless supply.
