Fred Meyer
« on: July 05, 2007, 12:35:52 PM »
I loved issue #25. I called up Fred Meyer, I got a n00b. I asked to be put through to extension 1810, she did no problems. The phone rung and.... she picked up again. Does this mean it can't be done remotley anymore?

The same thing happened to me. I'm guessing that it doesnt work anymore. They did it so many years ago, by now I'm almost positive that they've made changes so that it wouldn't happen again.

The last time I was successful at the Fred Meyer thing was in 1997.  By then they'd fixed all the Fred Meyers around Portland, but it still worked on the Fred Meyer in Albany and Corvallis, OR.  I don't think it's worked anywhere since the late 90's even though they still use the same phone system today that they used in 1994.

I tried doing it with Fred Meyer too, and I failed. A few years ago, I also tried calling a grocery store in eastern PA to see if I could get through. I called in, pretended to be an employee and gave the woman the extension number and she told me that I had to provide information to prove that I was an employee. Then, I told one of my friends who works at the store what happened and she told me that it's a strict policy to ask for proof because of people who will attempt to mess around, but that she would have let me get through if it were her.   :P

Uhm, is there any way that a rule could be added about posting in colors that only appear with special decoder glasses?

BTW, Tachyon, AMAZING's post says Drink your Ovaltine. (You didn't get the glasses?)

I work at a walmart, and just wanted to mention a few things i've noticed about our paging system. The primary thing is that there is apparently no way to hang up someone else's page. Quite often, some moron keeps dialing the page extension, and then leaving the phone off the hook. It's apparently an associate who doesn't like music. You hear random noises on the overhead, and the music cuts in for 2 seconds every 5 minutes. To hang it up, apparently someone has to go to every phone in the store, making sure they are hung up, until they find the one that's paging. Seriously, what the hell? You'd think that someone would have fixed this in every store... Oh, and when the paging system is broken, i have to randomly call extensions and walk to find people. what a pain.

Additionally, I've noticed that our paging is not done with an extension, but with a code starting with #. I'm assuming that this is either to make it non-transferrable, due to pranks, or to make it noticable when people ask for transfers, due to pranks.
