Plan 9 is old, REALLY old. Originally it was designed to be a successor to Unix, but it wasn't well recieved.

I've toy'd with it a bit in the past but nothing serious, it isn't really suitable to be used as a full blown OS. But if you're interested in getting serious with it theres a few IRC channels out there dedicated to Plan 9 development.
