How to Defeat YouTube's Copyright Screening
« on: January 11, 2009, 08:29:14 PM »
As you may or may not know, YouTube recently (I think it today) started deleting copyrighted audio from it's videos. Not the entire movie, just the audio track. Beneath the video in a pink box was an explanation.

I made a site which explains how to circumvent MySpace's "security" with simple url "hacks" I found. The site was incredibly popular (quantifying by hits from search queries, not by comparisons) for it's time.

I posit that similarly people will begin searching for ways to circumvent the screening of YouTube videos for copyrighted content despite it's seeming futility.

As a result, I have made the following video for the search engines: (NOM NOM SEARCH ENGINES!)

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/190azo_U5is" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/190azo_U5is</a>

Please rate the video high so people might think it's legit and not a silly ploy constructed by a phone loser.

I linked it from phonelosers.org in that paragraph about them making me change things.

YouTube did that to another one of my videos last week, where I used the entire song of Another One Bites The Dust by Queen.  Since that audio was nothing but that song, I was able to replace the audio with something YouTube picked out for me.  That was kind of neat that they offer that.

I think it's cool that YouTube is automating the process, though it'd be nice if the RIAA would come around and just realize that exposing people to their music is a good thing.  They shouldn't care so much if I'm only using it as background music and talking over it.  That would make people want to obtain a real copy if they liked it.  I bet it'll be decades before they change their ways.

Apparently, all you need to do is embed the video somewhere...

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/O1ooZOzKhr0&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/O1ooZOzKhr0&rel=1</a> fails, but if I embed it....

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/O1ooZOzKhr0" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/O1ooZOzKhr0</a>

Works fine as of the time this was posted!

Alternatively, change just the URL from
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/O1ooZOzKhr0&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/O1ooZOzKhr0&rel=1</a> to <a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/O1ooZOzKhr0&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/O1ooZOzKhr0&rel=1</a> and enjoy.

Or just use a YouTube video downloader and get the FLV. (MP4 downloads still don't seem to have the audio, at least for the example used here.)

Implementation fail!
