ID spoofing and billing
« on: August 01, 2011, 10:55:45 AM »
If you spoofed a caller id and called something like AT&T teleconferencing, could you bill the charges to another number? Like if my number's 555-555-1111 and i spoofed 555-555-2222 and had them bill the charged to 'my phone' would it be billed to 555-2222, providing there is no call back?

Dead hookers aside, what kind of conferencing service are you talking about?  The only AT&T conference service I've heard of that bills to your home phone is the old 0-700 Alliance teleconferencing, but I thought that service was gone now.  Is there something else?

Whatever it is, it probably wouldn't work since a service that bills to your home is more likely to use ANI than caller I.D.  Even if they used to use caller I.D. for authentication, they would have learned not to by now since spoofing has been available for at least 7 years now.

Back in the day, Bell Canada wouldn't even verify phone numbers, they'd just take down billing info. This worked for quite a long time, but I haven't tried in a long time.
