If that law gets passed a lot of people will be out of jobs. Names and Addresses aren’t a big deal in my eyes. Heck a simple caller id name return, can return the name off of a cell phone or land line phone. All you need after that is some public record websites and you can obtain a general location and sometimes even an exact address. Things like Social Security Numbers can vary because you can actually steal somebody's identity with it.
I called a local PI and talked to him for almost an hour, he told me there are different areas you can get specialize in. You can:
1. Track people down and get information off of somebody
2. Spy on people and see if they are really disabled or cheating on their wives
3. Get contracted by corporations for general purposes
He said you would probably be doing a little bit of everything but you can become know for something. I actually conference with him as I demonstrated a call to blockbuster (successfully), and one to the Library (also successful). He told me that I would have to learn to get other information other than names, phone numbers and addresses. Mainly Social Security numbers. He told me that with a Social Security number you can find out almost anything about the person. Previous addresses, jobs, family, ect. I've only gotten a few people's Social Security number before, and that has been Social Engineering the numbers out of the people themselves. I don't really know where else I could get one and he wasn't about to give up his "little secret". He explained that if I wanted to I could come by one day and "ride along" with him.
