Odd 866 number.
« on: July 11, 2007, 04:54:54 PM »
I received the newest copy of 2600 magazine.  And in it someone submitted a letter regarding the phone number 866-499-7878 - asking if anybody knew what it was.  The 2600 staff didn't even know what it was.

It gives all sorts of information:  "server media", "card", "port", "channel", then recites the number called.

Anyone here know what it is?

Yeah I read that too (mine came today) but have actually no idea what it does. Wasn't there another number in last issue that gives a different sequence of DTMF tones each time and there was a thread here about it?

I know absolutely nothing about this, but the mention of ports makes me think it could be computer/modem related.

Here's what I got when I called it:

Just ignore the intro with me talking, I just added that to all my recordings because of theft and the like.

Hey Bobby,

Are you sure you dialed the correct number?  The reason being is that I just called the number again, and it's still the same.

hrmm, all of the numbers change when i call back a bunch of times in a row..

i googled it and got this:

[PDF] PRODUCTS ORDER FORMFile Format: PDF/Adobe Acrobat - View as HTML
To place an order, contact:. Magnas Biotech Pvt. Ltd. 142, Riverside Street, Apt.# 12,. Lowell, MA-01854. Tel: 1-978-397-4667. Fax: 1-866-499-7878.
www.magnasgroups.com/ORDERFORM.pdf - Similar pages

maybe that was the old pwner of the number.

bells mind says

That NPA-NXX is invalid.

Id say it just a test rack that routes the calls to different test units mounted in the rack, exempli gratia: "server media 1" then "server media 2" etc..  cool number though, when does the summer issue of 2600 come out? i still have the spring..

It sounds like its for a trouble monitoring and reporting service for like a cable bridge type thing. I work in tech support at my local phone company and we provide television/dsl/phone. Our Tv stuff goes through carrier sites that house equipment for IP based video. We have what are called ONUs that manage card shelves, that in turn manage cards and ports that go to residental TV gateways.
