How the heck do you do this?

Done more in the late eighties.Any info on this would be cool, like a old text file on "A low-power microwave signal generator or a home-made equivalent from easily available components provides the signal (which is pointed at the receiving dish antenna)"

I think the second video pretty much answered your question.  I doubt these things are anywhere near that simple though 20 years later.  But who knows, security is always the part people lack in.

HBO broadcasts off the satellites so I guess thats different(probably impossible now, 20 years later), the other one was with a local channel which wikipedia says is possible still, but I don't have a freaking huge satellite dish and the microwave thing sounds cool(also probably not that simple anymore).Ive always wondered about this since watching They Live, I guess I kind of got a answer now.

OMG HAX the Captain Midnight incident. I remember reading about it in one George Hayduke's get even books. I can't remember the title.

Here's question, How did they manage to catch up with Captain Midnight? How come they never caught the Max Headroom TV hackers?

From what I read it seems hard for them to find you if your doing it for a short enough time.I believe MacDougall was caught because he was overheard bragging about it soon after the incident and because it got so much media attention the person knew what he was talking about and called the police.

The Max Headroom (OMGROFLBBQ!!11) clip isn't possible anymore since that was done on analog, likely from a standard VHS player, and now everything's digital to my knowledge. Still, with digital all things are possible with enough determination, I'm sure it's doable if you really wanted to.

I forgot about everybody having to switch to digital. I heard about a recent incident in Wyoming or something I guess that will be one of the last, but hey it will work in third-world shit holes like South America and Africa for a while longer I think.

Actually smaller rural areas are still going to be able to keep their analog signal for awhile.  Places where the audience isn't big enough to warrant the cost of switching to digital are being allowed to wait it out a bit longer.  But, again, these places are where there are small audiences, so what is the fun in that?
