alright, i'm usually not a fan of pranking 911, for obvious reasons...but this article from fark.com made me laugh really hard.

I see other stories where some nutcase calls 911 hundreds of times and they just tell the person to cut it out.  Why's this guy get arrested?

I think a lot of people think of 911 as "the number to the police" and not as an emergency line.  I've seen people use 911 to call the cops for retarded things before.  I bet it's a common mistake.

They should almost publicize another standard non-emergency number just as much so people won't do this.  It will prevent stupid people from going to jail for a stupid reason and it will keep the emergency lines open.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Jacksonville police say Reginald Peterson needs to learn that 911 is not the appropriate place to complain that Subway left the sauce off a spicy Italian sandwich.

Police said the 42-year-old man dialed 911 twice last week so he could have his sub made correctly. The second call was to complain that officers weren't arriving fast enough.

Subway workers told police Peterson became belligerent and yelled when they were fixing his order. They locked him out of the store after he left to call police.

When officers arrived, they tried to calm Peterson and explain the proper use of 911. Those efforts failed, and he was arrested on a charge of making false 911 calls.

Peterson did not have a listed phone number.

There are some Toll-Free numbers that link to emergency 911 dispatches...the funny thing is that they dont pass ANI, or so it appears. They keep threatening to trace the line only to hang up and not do anything about it.

A guy came into my store tonight and asked to use the phone to call the police. When the cop showed up and started bitching at him for calling 911 to get a ride I almost fell over laughing. Especially when he said "911 is not a taxi service."
