Liberating a GTE payphone
« on: January 20, 2009, 05:25:00 PM »
So there is this abandoned gas station way on the outskirts. There is a old GTE payphone placed right on the side of the store in a secluded location. I already checked the TNI for dialtone, and verified that it has been abandoned. Hell, I even looked into the company records and saw that service was disconnected in 2000.

The thing is bolted to the ground, and paint is chipping away. How easy would it be to remove said phone and restore it. It would look great in my garage.

I bet it'd be really easy.  But if you do, don't post about it here.  That'd be breaking one of the important forum rules and I'd have to delete your post.

Weird that the phone would still be there if it hasn't had a dial tone in 9 years.

O its just getting liberated, thats it. But hypothetically, could it just be unbolted with sulfuric acid or freon?

Freon is bad for the air, m'kay? Plus it won't work. To make concentrated sulphuric acid, you must remove the water from battery acid. You may or may not be an idiot, so that may or may not be possible for you to do without horrific injury. What's wrong with plain old thermite? That will melt the fuck out of those bolts like nobody's business. You can make that with steel wool and etch a sketch dust. If you can't find a sparkler to set it off with you could use an oxy-acetaylene torch to start the thermite or just to cut the bolt heads with.

Why can't you just use a socket wrench to unbolt it?

The possibility of someone else's fatal injury is much more appealing.

I personally suggest some Military Grade C-4 aka The Good Stuff. You could mold small strips to the bolts and rig up a small detonator to it without to much attention brought to yourself or damage to the pay phone itself . I have plans for a simple home-made detonator , You would need to get a hold of a 6.5536 Mhz crystal which should be pretty easy to get a hold of that if you know where to look and also you would need a cheap coffee maker for the project. I have found that my Home-Made detonator works a lot better than the cYS87 detonator that I got from a explosive operations company based out of South Dakota and its a lot cheaper so if you caught with it your not out 800 bucks.

I fail. I got the phone loose but it would not fit in the trunk.
