Scanners and Vonage

Hello! I am new to this site and scanning.  Will switching to Vonage increase my phone's privacy and prevent a modified scanner from picking up my cordless phone calls?  I have reasons to believe eavesdropping via an older modified scanner is occurring when I use my old 2.4 ghz cordless phones.   I don't want to have to switch back to a land line and I'm short on cash for a bunch of new 5.8 ghz phones.  Any input would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks for your time - ML

No. If you still plug your same old cordless phone in to your brand new Vonage box, it will still be just as easy to tap.

Also, how many phones would you need to switch out? You don't need 5.8GHz. A 2.4 GHz DSSS will also prevent wireless eavedropping. But even 5.8 GHz phones are really cheap now. I got a used two-handset system on eBay for $10. If you'd rather have it brand new, check out some of these prices.

Thanks for the quick reply and links.  I was told 5.8 phones were $70-80 each and I would like 4 for convenience.  I guess I have some comparison shopping to do.  I'll stick to the land phone for the moment.  Again, I appreciate your time, ML

it doesn't matter what kind of phone you have. eventually it all goes to copper anyways. if someone wants to tap your phone they can do it.

Analogue 5.8GHz phones are easy enough to listen to, however high enough frequency to be out of reach of the cheap scanners without a block downconverter.  The only cordless phones that are relatively secure are those that are digital as previously mentioned.  Also, it's worth mentioning that many cheap 5.8GHz phones only transmit 5.8GHz one way and use a lower band (heard by more scanners) the other direction.
