Weird Ringtone on Verizon Cell

Hey, the other day my friend and I were calling a Verizon cell and while the ring tone of some awful music was playing he said "Shhhhhhhhh" into the phone just messing around and the ringtone got quieter.  Said "Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" longer and it got quiter to a greater degree.

Has anyone else ever noticed this?

As an obvious note: Voice Mails are definitely listening to us before the user answers their phone.  Most everyone knows that if you cough during the greeting message that the message will stop for a split second while it thinks you are talking to it.

So, are these people *recording* us while the phone is ringing?  Inquiring Phreakers want to know.

Phones relay what you're saying to your own earpiece.  When you SHHHHH into the phone, you're flooding the tiny, shitty speaker in your earpiece with white noise.  The speaker splits the difference in volume between the ringtone and your static, because it's a tiny, shitty speaker with little or no extra voltage and amplification to it.
