Frames

Anyone ever hear of a "Frame" which is like a grey box with a lock on it that, when opened, reveals a staircase down to a mini C.O. ??  The Verizon guy who installed my Fios talked to me about them when i was trying prying test numbers out of him.  He told me the exact location
of one near a High School here in PGH, but, i can only get pics of the outside of the box, since it's locked up.  I will and post them soon.

I wish i knew ppl who worked for the tele co. so i can get more sweet data!

Why not get a job there just long enough to get secrets and shit and then quit My own mediocre attempt at humor has been highly amusing to myself.?

Okay, so.. i guess that a Frame is supposed to be a secret, whoops.  Ethermine and i were swarmed by police while shooting these pics:

The Frame Itself

The Typical Bell Warning

Under that metal lid was a BEST lock

External Auxiliary Power

The cops thought we were foreigners and said that this was a matter of "National Security."  You can hear a fan blowing in the tunnel, and feel air coming out of the side vents.  It's kinda creepy, but at the same time mysteriously cool.  I have never heard of these and thought they'd be cool to show off.

those are some sweet pictures...and that would be awesome if you somehow managed to find a way to sneak into one of those.  :-)
RogueClown has been known to cause the following side effects. Smiling, <3ing, dizziness, and the desire to listen to poorly recorded phone mobs. RogueClown is an MAO inhibitor.

No, but I have taken pictures without knowing what it was.

Right next to it was one of these for the DSL lines

Also in the area were many Bell manholes

I mapped the locations on Google Maps. To find the markers, find Chicago and look Northwest.

If you want more specific directions, it's on the south side of Schick Road in Bloomingdale, Illinois to the west of Indian Lakes Resort, to the near west of the Bloomfield Club subdivision and to the near east of the strip mall on the corners of Schick and Springfield. If you parked at the strip mall on the corner of Schick and Springfield, head east on foot on the same side of the road. It is just past the fence separating the strip mall and the Bloomfield Club subdivision.

Off-topic but a funny story: I used to live in that subdivision. People trying to find my docs (for whatever reason  ::)) would find the docs of a family who lived in the subdivision who shared my last name (My last name is an incredibly common Italian last name.) and lived half a mile away from me. They also had a young daughter (me-15 years) who shared my first name. They lived next to a retention pond I would frequent to avoid going home. I'd read or feed the geese fruit roll ups and watch them gang attack the poor goose with fruit rollup all over their beak. My friends also vandalized a sign there and it remained there for 10 years before it finally disappeared. So, it was very, very close, but, unfortunately, no cigar.

WOW!  :o  That one looks kinda secluded too.. That Bell can looks ripe BTW, see there's no mud or clogs in the finger holes and it doesnt look rusted shut (i hate those).

Actually, it's not. It is in plain view of a main thoroughfare road right next to a sidewalk. Just across the street (to the west) from that strip mall, is a regular, indoor mall.

I don't know how old they were at the time the pics were taken (2005) but they couldn't have been there for more than a couple of years. They were shiny.  ;D

[Edit: Map where you can see it and it's relative location to the strip mall, subdivision and street (In the trees just to the left of the middle of the pic. Rotate the pic using the toolbar for more views.)
